3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I picked this bottle up in San Francisco, and with the hope that I can hasten Spring’s arrival by getting rid of all my winter seasonals, I popped the cap. I can tell you right now that a luscious fruitcake aroma hit me as I poured this into a chalice. A very dark rusty blood body (ugh...I have to work on these descriptions) gives birth to a medium sized well-browned meringue head.
The aroma of the aforementioned fruitcake is the big hit in this. It smells smooth and rich, full of spices that are not overplayed, but well-meshed instead. The flavour is impressive and soothing. There is quite a lot of caramel malt forming a backdrop against nicely balance cinnamon and nutmeg flavours, along with the hint of pine, before leading through to a slightly dry finish. The body is medium, and matches the flavours and feel of this beer very well. In fact, overall I’d say this is an excellently crafted seasonal brew, that left me wanting more.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
2008 Bottle, a tad bit over 5 years old. Pours just like it did fresh, and smells almost like it did as well. I still get plenty of the original taste, and somehow, zero oxidation. But it has changed, the biggest difference being the palate feel and aftertaste, which isn’t great. It’s not quite medicinal aftertaste-wise, but it’s close. Still fairly remarkable for it’s age.

2.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Nice deep mocha color with a thick creamy head. Very light chocolate in the nose. Taste is is smoky, earthy, with a strange spice on the aftertaste that I can't place.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Luncheon half pour at the Brick Store. Pours a deep mahogany with slight off white head. I had this beer in the past and found it to xmas spiced, but todays hit the mark. Light sweetness with spiciness that dovetailed well into my curried sweet potato meal. Draft - Brick Store Pub - Decatur, GA

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
2013 version labeled for Europe. Sweet cloves aroma. Lots of Christmas spices in the taste: cloves, cinnamon, orange peel and candy apple. Nice because reminds all the Christmas flavours, but too low with body an alcohol and unbalanced with spices .

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Nothing special here. Pours dark red with a cream color head. Some typical winter spiced taste but a somewhat sour aftertaste. Dissapointing.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark clear brown with good head. Head retains. Cakey malt aromas. Clean chocolate taste, a little banana and cinnamon. Aftertaste lingers with mostly the hops on the back of the tongue. Reminds me a lot of Theakston's Old Peculiar.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle share taster. 2007. Clear amber. Aroma is dates, nutmeg, cinnamon, bread. A liquid fruit cake. This is 6 years old? Taste is sweet and a tiny bit of sour. A touch of paper lingers, but for the most part, this holds up like a champ.
