COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our special ale from the brewers at Anchor. It is sold only from early November to mid-January. The Ale’s recipe is different every year, but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons appears born anew.

Editor’s Note: due to the significant similarity in style and strength from year to year (despite potential differences in the exact spice blend), this beer is no longer separated by vintage.

Pours red tinted amber. Whole wheat flour and ginger aroma. Tastes.like straight mile gingerbread cookie. Strong bite and creamy mouthfeel. Good if you want desert but I haven’t even eaten dinner yet. Aww, its good anyway.

Jouluinen haju, väri syvän tumman ruskea, valkoinen vaahto. Maku hieman vetinen, mutta karvas. Haju makua parempi.

12 oz pour into tulip. Dark, opaque, moderate tan head. Nose is spiced, sweet, gingerbread. Palate is creamy and smooth. Taste echos nose with a dry, bitter finish. Maybe a little flat taste, though.

Incredibly soft mouthfeel makes this a delightful brew! Pours nearly black w/ a big foamy tan head w/ spotty lacing. Has some nice Christmasy spices in the aroma that draws you in. The taste carries some of these spices but it’s a touch thin which kind of waters down the flavor. The light body is actually quite enjoyable tho! Solid beer!

2014 version. Classy; pretty impressive amount of spices atop a caramel malt nose: allspice, pine, gingerbread, star anise, juniper? Who knows. A “flat coke” signoff. Little thinner than, but reminds me of, Kerkom’s "Winterkoninkske" beer – a good thing. Sweetness is balanced out with a slight bitterness (that sort of light end typical of, say, Porterhouse Brewery). I know this is going to sound very “Waitrose” (up-market UK supermarket), but it does remind of the year Heston Blumenthal did mince pies with pine sugar; maybe it’s the Christmas thing.

Bottle at desk in work . From beer hawk. A dark black / caramel brown coloured pour with a lasting light tan head. Aroma is liquorice spiced spruce tips, woody nutmeg, brown sugars, christmas spice. Flavour is composed of bitter black liquorice, chared wood, spruce and pine needles, some jammy fruits, apricot. Palate is medium bodied, medium sweet, powdery highish carbonaton, semi drying. Decent for a SHV.

Dark nutty color with a fine tan head. Looks nice. Ok intensity in the aroma. Medium (+) body and an average carbonation. Tad sweet and a moderate bitterness. Bready, some spices, fruity and toffee.

as always wonderful cinnamon nutmeg and gingerbread aroma with a caramel note also..dark brown no light passes thru with tan filmy head and lacing..taste a little more hoppy(pine) than apparent in the nose with the abovementioned cinnamon ginger flavors as well burnt malts and smoke apparent as well surprisingly dry finish..light-medium bodied long dry finish with a coka cola like aftertaste this isn’t my favorite one could use more sweetness and is even slightly harsh, still unusual and tasty though, a hop fan may rate this higher (2015 batch)

Bottle from Cocktails, Littleborough. 2013 Christmas Ale version. Dark reddish-brown with a thick frothy head. Includes plenty of dark malt, which is lightly spiced, with hints of roasted malt, but mainly sweet.
