COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

33 cl bottle from "Il regno di Gambrinus". Served into an english half pint. Pours a dark ruby red/brown with a nice and big beige head that last long. Mindblowing lacing. Lovely aroma of dark fruits, coffee, chocolate, smoke, burnt malts and liquorice. Goes down extremeley smooth thanks an awesome creamy and almost liquorous. The carbonation is soft and the finish is smokey/sweet and dry. Wow, this is a fantastic beer, I want at least a bomber of this stuff! Delicious.

Bottle at home. Dark brown, thick tan head fades to nothing. Ovaltine, roasty, chocolatey, slightly porter-tangy nose. Possibly perfect porter nose. More tang on the palate, with plenty of dry ovaltine/malty/chocolatey richness. Lovely roasty hop linger, really works. Textbook porter, really stunning.

Bottle from Regional Wine and Spirits. Pours chestnut brown with a small off white head. Banana chocolate nose which was quite odd. Not bad at all. Smokey, almost tar-like chocolate in the taste. Has a rather dry and bland finish but besides that its solid

Black with a dense tightly packed thick brown head; coffee and chocolate nose; chocolate on the tongue; bitter, malty, coffee like finish.

Dark cola colored pour. Heavy malt aroma. Bitter coffee notes with a solid malt backbone. Too heavily carbonated for me.

Surprised I haven’t rated this. 12 ounce bottle from Total Wine West Richmond, rated 3/21/11. Pours a dark brown color with a large brown creamy head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of bitter metallic hops, chocolate and roasted malts. The taste is roasted malts, caramel, bitter hops, some fruity notes. Medium bodied.

Aroma has really roasted malt and chocolate. Flavour has really nice roastiness and dark chocolate. Sweetness and dry roastiness are in perfect balance. One of my favourite porters!

1 pt 6 fl oz bottle from Premier Wine and Spirits (Halifax). Pours a near black, dark brown with fairly large, creamy, light brown head. Aroma is roasty with coffee, chocolate and some rich dark fruits. Flavour is smoky with coffee, cocoa and dark fruit with a modestly drying finish. Rather creamy texture. Quite nice.
