COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Wow :-). Poured a nice pitch black with a hint of brown in direct light. The enormous off-white head gave it a very delicious appearance. Smelled thick of sweet milk chocolate, lightly roasted coffee and some lingering hops. Tasted extravagant; Notes of creamy smooth chocolate, with hints of roasty coffee, raisins and bitter cocoa overflowed the senses with satisfaction. The finish was a little earthy, while the bitterness of cocoa lingered and taunted you for another sip. One of, if not the best porters I’ve ever had!

Almost black with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and bitter finish. 291108

Really good smooth and rich porter. Nice mouthfeel, taste is more "fresh" than in most porters.

Very dark, almost black colour with thick white head with modrate lasting. Aromas of caramel, roasted malt, coffe, chocolate, classic porter on the nose but with a higher intensity on the nose. Taste is moderate sweet with slightly dry yet sweet finish. Heavy body and texture is oily.

Very dar, black colour with a slight, fizzy tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, caramel, some coffee along with bitter hops. Taste is very mature, rich in malt with bitter aftertaste. Oily, full-bodied porter. Nice one.

UPDATED: JUL 31, 2011 Bottle at North Bar, Leeds. Can’t believe it took me so long to try this one, think I may have a new favourite porter. Generous light head on top of a perfect deep black colour. In fact, you look at it and wonder - how much more black could it be? And the answer is none. None more black. Lovely rich aroma, roasted, chocolate, fairly sweet actually. Nicely contrasted by bitterness in the taste. Hard to improve on Anchor’s own description - it really is ’intensely rich’. Bitter dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruits. Bitterness balanced by a touch of sweetness. Wonderfully balanced, a very, very good beer.

Good tasting porter. Black pour, light brown head. Good balance of malts that have taste off roasted coffee, creamy, nutty, chocolate, hint of sweetness, creamy body, and slight bitter finish. Good brew!!!
