COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Pours a dark brown with deep garnet highlights when held to light. Creamy frothy espresso like head sticks around for some time before attaching itself to the side of the glass. Rich malty aromas waft above the glass. Coffee, chocolate, brown sugar and toffee mixed with a hint of earthy hops. Taste is malty with coffee toffee and chocolate. Earthy/herbal bitterness mixes with a hint of alcohol and a touch of smoke somewhere in the middle. Long lingering bitter chocolate and hops in the finish. Creamy, bubbly mouthfeel, ample almost to much carbonation, medium body. Great old school American style porter.

220z bottle. Tan head, has dark black colour and frothy head. aromas of barley, roasted malts, molasses and sweet oats (kind of un-expected but pleasing). has a very charcoal roasted taste but is quite creamy at the same time. An overall enjoying brew.

UPDATED: AUG 2, 2011 Looks are spot on for a porter; great dark looks. Aroma similarily typical for the style, with bread, chocolate, roasty, caramel... just very generiusly hopped and malted. No surpise the taste is very rich yet balanced, only slightly sweet, and just very nice. One of the best porters I’ve head. (33cl bottle at Cafe Belgie)

Bottle at home. Dark brown colour, with creamy brown head. Aroma of sweet chocolate and sweet roasted malts. Taste is of bitter chocolate and roasted malts. Nice bitterness, and the sweetness makes it a smooth, balanced porter. Really good stuff.

Bottle. Pours a deep black, slightly red tinted color. Good lacing retention, not much head present. Aromas of figs, sugary toffee, smoked nuts, vanilla, caramel. Taste is dark plums, candy sugar, molasses, slightly roasted malts, very smooth and silk like mouthfeel. Really an impressive porter.

Small bottle. Black with a large light brown head. The aroma has lots of chcolate and even more dark fruits after a while. When you taste it, you still feel the large amount of chocolate and fruits, very nice!!
