3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Pastor (700) - Maine, USA - APR 23, 2011
This is a good porter. I poured it into a IMP pint glass and was greeted with a two finger tan head that stuck around for a while. The body was black on this brew no surprise there. The nose was full of coffee and roasted malts . Flavors were just like the nose coffee and chocolate notes abound. The mouthfeel was ok but need some more body. Easy to drink I could have a few in a sitting

355ml bottle.
Pours a very dark reddish brown/black, with a firm brown head.
On the nose there is a clear element of roasted malts - chocolate, coffee, tar, etc - and notes of vanilla, spices, hops and sweet licorice.
The palate is medium to full bodied, with some residual sweetness, quite thick, and medium bitterness.
Flavourwise, again loads of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, licorice, vanilla, hops.
It finishes quite bitter and roasted, and the sweetness gets almost a tad cloying (but, hey, I’m getting picky here), and it ends on a quite astringent, ashy note. On the other hand, the sweetness helps to wrap the somewhat robust roasted notes into a velvety coating, which increases the drinkability like h*ll. Rich, yet subtle.(2011-04-23).

Thanks to my dad for picking this up at International Beverage Selections in Grand Rapids. Served in a Hill Farmstead Wine Glass.
Pour yields a very dark brown-colored brew with a really nice tan head and quite a bit of lacing. Solid retention as well. The nose brings forward some light chocolate and roast. There is also a bit of toffee and caramel lingering in the background. The taste is similar, leaning more toward the chocolate with a bit of malt sweetness. Body is too thin and undercarbonated. Not my favorite from Anchor.

the liquid is very dark black/brownish, with a creamy tanned medium thick head. presentation looks very full and luscious. the aromascape is very creamy and milky with coffee, chocolate, caramel, a bit of roast, dark bread, dough, banana, vanilla.. the taste is very creamy sweet with lot of that milky character, probably has more of that than any other beer i’ve tasted. the flavours and aromas of coffee/milk/banana really come out. the taste really compliments the aromas with sweetness and slight sourness. the palate works very nicely here also, the creamy texture of the liquid settles nicely and puts tastes where they are meant to be. they have managed to create a very unique and specific porter here, not many similar ones out there. and what they’ve done, they’ve done it very well.

On draft at Anchor tasting room. Pours mostly clear, almost black in color with some mahogany at the edges and topped by a thick tan colored head of foam that shows good retention while leaving nice lines of lacing on the glass. The aroma shows notes of dark chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, vanilla, and ample earthy hop bitterness on the back end. The flavor follows suit and is just as roasty as the nose let on with ample amounts of dark chocolate and roasted malts while the earthy hops lend ample bitterness. A touch of vanilla cream smooths things out and adds nice balance between the chocolate, roast, and hops. Medium bodied and smooth with balanced carbonation that leads to a roasted, bitter sweet finish. Tasty stuff as all the flavors play off each other nicely. This is a well crafted, classic porter. Good stuff and my favorite of the day after the tour.
