San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

33ml bottle at Brudenell Social Club, Leeds. Seriously good porter, as always. Dark brownish colour, not much head retention. Dark chocolate, dried fruit, dates, liquorice, cherries, coffee. Medium/light body. Quite sweet, but not too sweet. Quite creamy palate, not as "robust" as some. Only rivalled by Founder’s Porter and Sam Smith’s Taddy.

Pours dark brown, almost black haze colour with light brown creamy, stable head. Aroma is without note of an alcohol, with hints of roasted barley, tobacco, dark chocolate, cherries and coffee. Flavor is smoothy-fruity sweet, with malty notes of chocolate, coffee and fruity notes of cherries, strawberries and vanilla. Malt sweetness is medium, hop bitterness also, body is sticky, finish is dry bitter long lasting. Carbonation is soft. Really good porter.

Bottle. Nose is chocolate, cream, hints of latte, slight blackberry, hints of vanilla, very inviting and slightly sweet stoutish. Taste is bitter, chocolate, vanilla, cream, coffee bitter with a herbal hop note in the finish. The second sip reveals licorice, and a bramble and cherry note. A lovely porter which errs on the side of stout to my mind.

Dark chocolate (like those mini Hershey bars with the red label at Halloween) and black licorice aroma yet the hops come through with a bitter chocolate flavor on the finish. Delicious. Poured from a bottle.

Buen aroma a caramelo y buena presencia, con espuma de escasa persistencia. Gusto a caramelo tostado dulce con ligero amargor final. Paladar agradable. Buena Porter quizá se echa de menos mayor riqueza de matices.

Bottle, from Craft Beer Cellar in Waterbury VT. Poured into a pint glass, poured an opaque black with a light brown head. Thick, sweet & heavy, with hints of molasses and roasted grain. A beer with presence, best savoured in a comfy armchair next to a well-stoked hearth.
