COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

drank out of bottle in my new half yard glass .. . pours a dark brown with a massive head. Light roast and charcoal, not thick like most of the dark beers i’ve sampled. A good beer, but with the warmer months arriving, i am still a lager lover..

Aroma is malt and chocolate. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Taste is sweet with malted barley and chocolate. Great mouth feel. This beer is like a great dessert. Awesome.

Draught @ Anchor’s AT&T Park bar. Poured dark brown, slight coffee head. Chocolate, some roasted malts, vanilla, but all overridden by a powerful bitterness. In retrospect I probably should have let this one warm a bit, but I’m not sure that would have given more balance.

On tap taste at Anchor Brewing Company at San Francisco Airport. Opaque, very deep brown with huge head and very good lacing. Malty aroma with dark malt, toffee, mocha and dark fruit. Taste of mocha, toffee and roast malt. Delicious. Medium/light body and medium carbonation but very smooth mouthfeel. Like a cross between a Scottish ale and a porter. Very tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pretty much black with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, grass, coffee, vanilla, aniseed. Medium bodied and very silky. Taste is slightly sweet with mocha, modest charred flavour, licorice and spices. Quite firm bitterness perhaps overshadows the clean malt side of things. But very nice all the same.

Bijna zwart van kleur, flinke dichte kraag. Aroma van roggebrood, koffie, chocolade. Smaakt wat naar hele pure chocolade, wat wrang. Body mocht wat voller zijn wat mij betreft.
