COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Excellent porter! A worthy working man’s brew . . . and a fine looking bottle to boot!

nice opaque color, with tannish head that quickly fades. there’s a suprisingly weak aroma for an american porter, mainly coffee with an alcoholic tinge. moderately hoppy, lending a pleasantly dry finish. the malt flavors are nice and earthy. this one improves significantly as it warms. great for after you come out of the cold.

Dragonblaze99 (354) - Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 29, 2001
Nice roasty malt taste, slightly nutty with lingering pleasant palate. The alcohol tint offsets nicely the slight sweetness in the body, creating in the whole a well-crafted porter that is good enough to be enjoyed on its own.

Alcoholic nose. As a result, starts with sharp tint of alcohol. Medium-bodied with a nice dark chocolate mid. Finishes clean with a mild aftertaste.

A good sitting around the house and want a good beer, beer, but not a special occasion beer by far. Nice head, decent flavor, little light on the color, nice adverage portner, but nothing special here.

Roasty patent malt bitter flavor, not too sweet. Perfect appearance, grainy tan head. Palate could be a little thicker. This is an almost ideal beer with chili dogs & chips, BTW.

This is the beer that woke me up to what real beer is, and I can not thank it enough. Chocolate dominates the black malt, but both are moderate and balanced for this often overdone style. A classy execution of a gruff style.

Assertive but not overpowering, this porter is a truly classy brew. It has a crispness that is uncommon in the style. Definitely recommended.
