COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Bottle. Dark black pour, plenty of lasting carbonation and a sweet nutty nose. Flavor is sweet dark malts, a little sweet hazelnut and finished a little coppery on the aftertaste. Too sweet for my taste.

35,5cl bottle from a beer retailer. It pours a pitch black liquid with a small-medium tan bubbly head, somehow lasting throughout the beer, but leaving no lacing. The aroma has roasted malts and a nice hoppy touch. It smells of licorice, dark chocolate, toffee; very sweet. It also has this nice herbal touch. It tastes likewise, with high sweetness and medium bitterness. The flavour is very intense and gently malted; delicious. The mixture between roasted malts and hops is very balanced and good. It is medium-bodied and softly carbonated, ending semi-dry with a nice aftertaste. Cool porter: really good tasting, it feels like a very good companion for chocolate pastries. Presentation (bottle and crown cap) is very good (this people at Anchor BC take it seriously).

22 oz bottle. Pours a very dark black opaque with brown edges. Head dies to a thicker film, laces well, a bit frothy when first poured. Aromas are light cocoa, light roast and toast, toffee, creamy malts. Initial is medium bodied, perhaps a touch lighter. Blends of cocoa, sweet and bitter cocoa, touches of roast, toast, creamy body with a silky smooth finish. Finish is simple and smooth with touches of light hops and roast. Very well balanced. A solid, classic example of the Porter style. I would drink this anytime!
