COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Easy drinking beer.Pours dark brown with a long lasting fluffy tan head. Aroma is mostly earthy, with a slight roasted coffee edge. Perfect carbonation allows this one to glide across the tongue into a short, dry, earthy finish. Good stuff.

Bomber served in an English pint. Pours dark brown with a med-large light brown head. Good staying power and lacing. Aroma and palate match. Both slightly sweet, chocolatey, with a medium roast, and a hint of dark dried fruit. Medium body, average carbonation, creamy-slick texture, and a medium roasty, decently hopped, dry finish. Great porter.

Was primarily sweet in flavour. Cherry like. Strong stiff head with great colour and aroma. But average. Not strong in taste like a porter would be. Ended fairly bitter. As put by brewmastercody with whom I enjoyed this, I expected more from such a highly rated beer.

Not much aroma, nice colour, nice sweet to bitter taste. Not too thick, good palate. Not the best tasting stout. expected more for a 99 overall stout.

UPDATED: JUN 1, 2011 Sweet smoky palate, very drinkable, delicious, balanced hops and malts, malts are dark but not very roasted. Very interesting, highly recommended

Bottle. Poured a dark brown/black, medium tan head. Aroma is roasted chocolate malts. Flavor is malt, chocolate milk, cream. Roasted finish. Decent.

Medium black with a light tan head, persistent and lace-full. Smells smoky and meaty, not unlike smoked bacon. But still very porter-like aroma. Taste starts sweet and toffee-like, turns smoky and actually pretty hoppy towards the end. Generous kinda-bitter hopped ending doesn’t take away from the oak and smoke tones from the darker, robust malts. A true classic, just not my favourite. Better than average, though.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. The neck label has a nice description of the beer and there is a bottle code (OFJ) imprinted on the back label. Appearance: It has a dark brown/black body with deep crimson highlights and a tall three finger beige head on top. The head is slow fading and thick. It coats the glass as I tip it to my mouth and leaves thick splotchy lace patters behind. Smell: The nose is malty sweet and roasty with caramel, toffee, bready and light toasted bread notes with a hint of chocolate. Taste/Palate: It’s sweet up front with lots of deep malty texture in a full body. Roasted grain, toasted bready notes, caramel and toffee blend with mild bitterness from the mostly hidden hops and finish a little dryer but still with some residual sugary sweetness. It has a smooth full feel with light carbonation. Notes: Overall it’s a well made and very enjoyable American Porter.
