COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Served from a bottle on a recent trip up to San Fran. The appearance is a deep brown black with a big foamy brown head. The aromas are full with a good heavy roasted grain and a light burnt coffee note. The flavors are pretty rich with a similar heavy roast grain, malts, and some coffee notes. Very dry flavors with just a kiss of sweet. The mouth is on the fuller side and well carbonated, perhaps a touch too much. A great classic porter.

Dark black in color with a thick dark head. Chocolatey, smokey flavor with an average mouthfeel and light carbonation. This beer isn’t going to knock you off your feet, but like every Anchor beer there is just something about it. A nice classic brew that you’re sure to enjoy.

Dark, murky brown color with a medium tan head. Bitter chocolate taste. This could have used more malt.

I poured a 12 oz bottle into a tall pint glass... The beer was black, there was just a sliver of light that shines through the edge of the glass with brownish, red hues. The head was tall, filmy and tan colored. I could smell lots of roasted malt, molasses, chocolate and a dark fruity presence. Tastes roasty, there is some licorice and molasses, raisin and bitter coffee. The liquid is smooth and silky, it has low carbonation and a thick medium body. The rich flavor and full body prevents me from drinking very many at a time, it’s very enjoyable though.
