San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Bottle 33cl. Deep black with a fluffy off white head that stays nicely. Aroma of malts and surprisingly some fruits (like raisins?). The taste is very mild. Bitter, not very complex, but quite well.

Dark brown to black beer with a one finger high beigebrown, creamy head. The lacing stays on the glass in large chunks.

Nose: Dark fruit, chocolate, whipped cream, vanilla, coffee beans, roasted malt, dark bread and molasses.
Taste: Molasses. Very malty (roasted), cocoa, cold brew coffe, coffe grind, licorice and caramel.
Mouth: Creamy mouthfeel. Low carbonation. Sweet in the middle with a dry, bitter ending.

Beatiful porter!

Bottle 0.355L. Dark brown body with a large, frothy, tan head, mostly lasting with fair lacing. Moderate-to-heavy malty (roasted, light caramel) aroma with smoked character and notes of coffee and licorice. Moderate bitter and light sweet flavour; some dark chocolate notes in the finish. Medium-to-full body with oily texture; soft carbonation.

Poured into a taster showing pitch black center with thin coffee brown translucent rims and a thin layer of latte colored foam. The nose shows a lot of sweet molasses with hints of toffee and caramel. The palate is light bodied and carbonated. Seems to have a sweet barleywine forwardness that is in the background but is clearly dry. This aspect is very interesting. Closer to a barley wine in my opinion but the finish is a clean light bodied porter with a roasted malt bitterness. Definitely interesting, just not so great.
