COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

12 oz. bottle at The Royale. Batch 08M. Pours a dark brown color with a huge tan head that leaves some lace in the glass. Aroma of chocolate malts, earth, leafy hops, and toast. Also a little funk in the nose. Flavor of chocolate malts, coffee, roast, earth, and sweet bread. Medium bodied, with soft carbonation and a smooth, chocolaty mouthfeel. Nice, simple porter.

Notes from Wednesday, August 11 2010 12 oz. bottle from HyVee Marion Ar: The aroma seems a bit deadened to me, but what’s here is pretty nice (roasted coffee). Ap: This is a really pretty beer. Pours a deep black with just a hint of red shining through when held to the light. 1" cinnamon head of tightly knit bubbles lasts long enough to enjoy. T: Of course the big roast coffee note is present, but there are some black licorice and chocolate undertones that are quite nice. P: The creamy head adds a nice texture to this beer. Moderately thick body. O: This is a really good porter. Definitely worth the $10 per sixer it retails for around here.

Bottle served in shaker- poured a dark brown color with tints of black and dark maroon, light carbonation, half finger off tan head formed which laced to an extent. Aroma of dark toasted malt with notes of chocolate, coffee, and freshly baked rye bread- very nice. Hits the mouth with a wide medium body, malt comes across as roasted heartily, some light brown sugar in the middle, finish is creamy, sticky, and lasting. If you don’t like this beer, get the hell out of here.

Draft at Euston Tap. Pours dark brown with a thick, beige head. Brown sugar and caramel malts in the nose. Fairly sweet flavor, lots of dark malts, slight minerality, plenty more caramel and brown sugar, along with light, earthy bitters. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. The finish is sweet, faintly roasty, with lightly sticky hops, mild mocha. Pretty excellent overall.

Nutty, broody beer. It’s a very smooth brew with a burnt carmel finish. I find myself wishing it was a little colder right now because it has the makings of a great winter beer.

I love drinking this one. I put on my Mr.Plow jacket, pet Santa’s Little Halper, then I race downstairs to have another Anchor Porter.
