COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Bottle at Cardinal’s Porter Symposium. Clear deep ruby with a finger thick, creamy light brown head. Light bodied and dry. the roasted notes are properly present in mouth and on the nose along with dried fruits especially prunes. Sweet, acidic and bitter. A well balanced porter.

Bottle 33cl. A dark beer with low head. Smell is malty and roasted. Aroma is a sweet caramel and roasted malt style beer, medium creamy, good roast flavor with nice chocolate and sweet notes. Some fruit hints at the finish, a goos porter a bit heavy but pleasant.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2010 Bottle. A - Dark garnet color with a large, foamy, thick, creamy tan head. Good retention that sticks around for awhile. Leaves a nice layer of lace. S - Sweet malt with cocoa and some anise (along with some raisin) aroma gives it a chocolaty and tart aroma. Slightly roasted malt with some caramel. Could be a little stronger, but pretty good. T - Similar to the nose with chocolate, some anise, and some raisin come out along with the roasted, sweet, caramel malt. Some earthy and nutty flavors come out along with a touch of spiciness. Hints of coffee, but fairly faint. Very nice mix of flavors and pretty well balanced. M - Fuller side of medium body with a good level of carbonation. Pretty smooth and creamy. Just gets a touch of a drying feel at the end. D - Very easy to drink porter with a nice mix of flavors that is well balanced. Keeps me wanting to drink more. Notes: A very nice porter with mixes of cocoa, anise, raisin, nutty, earthy, and caramel malt flavors. Sweet, tart, spicy, and roasted tones all come in and out. Might not be world class, but a great beer for a good price. Recommend picking one up.

Tudnak a yenkik.

Warning! Early amateur rating! Sharp start - noticeably banana! Finishes smoky, bitter and dry. Gets better with peserverence. Bitter chocolate and coffee. Still getting better...

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2011 Bottle. Black with a large light brown head. Aroma: wine gums, blackcurrants, chocolate. Taste: Sweet licorice, wine gums, berries, just a bit of milk chocolate, rather sweet, slightly acidic. Full and creamy mouthfeel, pretty stouty in character.

degbert (641) - Austin, Texas, USA - OCT 15, 2010
Bottle. Pours an opaque dark brown with a fine-grained cappucino head. Smells somewhat dry and austere for a porter; spice and roast is about it. Palate is rich and roasty, but the dryness remains; espresso and rye notes predominate. Mouthfeel is clean, crisp, and elegant. Good.
