COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

355 ml bottle @ Olutravintola Pannuhuone. Rated @ 29.8.2009.
Pours a black colour with a brown head. Roasted malts on the nose, which dominate the flavour too. Coffee and mild hop notes. Thin mouthfeel and decent carbonation. Average porter.

Bottle. Poured a deep cola brown color with ruby highlights and a thick, dense tan head that slowly recede and left some thick spotty lacing. Aroma of chocolate, light roast, coffee, and a soft dark fruitiness (light plum). Smooth, sweet entry with some chocolate and a light fruitiness that leads into a moderate roastiness with more hints of sweet fruit (plum) that give way to an espresso-like coffee character that lingers into the finish where it pairs with a faint, lightly hoppy bitterness. Low carbonation and smooth, slick mouth feel. Overall, a very drinkable beer that does a nice job balancing flavor and weight on the palate.

Poured quick and left a nice lingering tan head. Not black but very brown with red highlights when held to the light. Nose is sweet with a caramelly backing supported by prunes, raisins, light roast, and maybe some hops but is light. Taste is balanced between some light malts, caramel and roasts. Kinda light bodied and is finishes fast and clean. Light bitterness shows. Not bad but not my favorite. easy drinker.

12oz bottle pours an opaque brown body with a bubbly tan head. The aroma is outstanding, mostly sweet caramel and chocolate malt. The flavor is not as sweet as the aroma would have you think, though it certainly plays its part (though, I think it’s mostly coming through the nose). There’s a hoppiness in the flavor, which is very welcome, but the standout component is the coffee-like roast and bitterness. All of these components play incredibly well together to form an amazing brew. One of my favorites, definitely.

Pours a deep red with a lasting head. Maybe some caramel, dark malts, wants me to dive in. The beer leaves a taste with me that just makes me want more and more, perhaps I’ve found a new go to session? I’m tasting a bit of coffee maybe... overall delicious.
