COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Nicely enough getting to try this in Belgrade via ’Rare Beers’ in Budapest. 12oz bottle pours warm and thick, with a cream just-tan head. Nose is robust and sweet, warming and rosy. Smoke and roast are very much at the back, just whiffs, under a much warming dark malting and hoppiness. Incredibly smooth and welcoming mouthfeel that finishes a touch dry and bitter. A bit sweet in the end, I’d personally prefer something a little stronger to balance, but this is a worthy of a winter mug. Very nice.

Bottle. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Roasty, coffee aroma. Tastes quite smooth, malty, coffee, chocolate, dark fruit, roasty. A really complex porter for such a low strength.

Bottle, 12 fl oz. Black with light brown head. Slight aroma is of burnt malt. Lots of carbonation (all natural, states the bottle) initially . Slight sweet taste. Flavour of bitter chocolate and burnt malts. Dry finish. Good stuff, plenty going on for just 5.6%.

This one really shows the vast range of what you can call a "porter". Pours a deep, deep, deep reddish brown with significant head. Startling and bold flavours here - chocolate big time - I often use chocolate as a descriptor when things sort of taste like chocolate...but this was flat out chocolate. And unmistakable cherry. Almost a cherry cola taste to it. Only 5.6% alcohol but it was present enough to give a nice warming effect. Very low on the drinkability scale. It makes you think, this one!

Aroma of caramel and roast. Dark brown with thin head. Heavy caramel more than chocalate and past. Bottle better.

Bottle from "Csakajósör"-store, Bp. Pours a ruby dark brown with a nice, creamy and beige coloured head which collapses slowly. Smell of fruits, coffee and toffee. It begins malty, chocolate/liquorice flavoured, escorted by fruity notes, mouthfeel’s slick. The middle part is roasty with hoppyness in the back, the finish is chocolate-bitter, light alcoholy noted and dry, which remain in a coffe/liquorice-liked aftertaste. Very nice and complex.

$10 sixer - I’ve waited too long to try this one. Anchor Porter is the real deal. Nice chocolate and toffee notes. Silky smooth texture and nice to look at. Moderate carbonation. Good value and would buy again.

12 oz. bottle Poured a very dark brown, almost black with a small creamy had that dissipated quickly. Distinct lacing. So dark, it looks like cola in the glass. Smell is quite sweet surprisingly with a nice cocoa/coffee hint. Also had a hint of a red wine smell which was quite unusual. Taste is chocolatey with a hint of wine as well. Very unique. Nice bitter finish. Mouthfeel was quite smooth and enjoyable. Drinkability was quite high. Nothing too filling which surprised me a bit for how dark this porter was. Overall, this was a great porter. Anchor puts out another excellent product and I would highly recommend it.
