COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

What a beer! I’m lacking any real tasting notes on this as it has been a while since I’ve tried it. I just remember thinking to myself that this was one of the best beers i’ve ever had on tap.

355ml bottle. Pours pitch black with a creamy/beige head. Aroma is berries, raisin and malt. Taste is of some chocolate and with a bitter finish. Low carbonation and a bit oily on the palate. Quite a good porter, but I’ve had better ones.

Bottle. Very nice porter. Pours pitch black with a good beige head. Some lacing on the glass. Strong aroma with hints of coffee, some sweet notes and roasted hints. Taste was really nice with a lot of malts, some coffee, chocolate and bitter hops. Pleasant aftertaste which stays there for a while. Full, smooth bodied and a real treat.

Butterscotch, raisins, and plastic aroma. Black, thin tan head. Plastic raisin flavor. Chemical finish. Something is very odd about this beer. It tastes unnatural, artificial.

Powertrip (758) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 13, 2010
Tasted: 2010 Calgary Beerfest. Thick black colour. Nose: Rather weak, some dark malt. Taste: Entrance of a caramel and toffee swirl. Oven roasted potatoes (with seasoned salt) take over. Thick coffee finish. An unusual sweet-to-salt profile.
