COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Ahh, a fine porter. Black body with a nice, lasting tan head. Full bodied and smooth. Taste of bitter hops with strong coffee notes with a bit of vanilla and chocolate. Bitter, lasting finish. Excellent!

Sampled from a 12 ounce bottle. With a thick tan head upon pouring, has a strong roasted scent. Very very dark brown, almost black, even when held up to light. Medium body, average carbonation. Has a small undercurrent of bitter hops throughout, but becomes more evident and turns to creamy in the finish. Overall an excellent beer.

Appearance: Poured an almost pitch-black color with a fingerwide tanned, creamy head.
Aroma: Moderately dry coffeish scent with a subtle gainy feel.
Flavor: Bland roasted malty dryness with a strong coffeish nature fills the whole palate. A smooth creamy vanilla feel at the medium gently fades to a bold roasted coffee finish.
Mouthfeel/Palate: Easy to medium body with a smooth, oily palate.
Overall: Memorable, tasty, porter from Anchor B.C Not the type of brew that i crave after in a hot summer day, but still more than decent.

I am enjoying this beer a lot. Aroma is coco and coffee. Appearance is black with about two fingers of tan head. Taste is coffee and roast. Palate is very smooth and full bodied.

Pours black with a small tan head. The aroma is sweet and roasty. Chocolate, coffee, spice, and brown sugar on the nose. The flavor is similar to the nose... Chocolate, coffee, spice and brown sugar. I was wishing the whole time there was a little more mineralliness on more bitterness to offset the sweetness. Not bad, just not great.

A deep black body with a frothy head. A little bit more bitterness than I like......

12 oz brown bottle. Pours deep brown/black, head is tan and creamy, displays good lacing. Aroma is dominated by dark fruits with subtle notes of roast chocolate and coffee. Taste is smoke, chocolate covered cherries and malt. Finish is lightly burnt wood. Not quite what I would like to drink all the time, but occasionally.

Drank this right out of the cellar with no fridgework. Poured out a black brew on a smooth pour giving a frothy dark brown cap with excellent retention and messy lacing. Chocolate, daaark roast, hint of milk, figs early on - those fade to a light fruit, caramel, vanilla, fainter smoke - that equals an appealing aroma! Taste wise this rules. I cannot count how many I will drink in the months to come. Chocolate, deep roast, plums, caramel, good mild and short lived bitterness found during every tasty sip, smoke, ample dark citrus stuff, vanilla. The chocolate taste isn’t a face full of chocolate but there is a lasting impression as the flavours all seem to compliment eachother. Smooth and lightly carbonated make this pretty damn good drinkin’. Deep roast and caramel rule the aftertaste with a smidgen of charcoal.
