San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Insane! Never tasted a porter like it although always stuck to British ones so far. Appearance: endless black abyss topped with a delightful copper foam. Smells like heaven. Cola, spices, chocolate, caramel and a really dark top quality single estate espresso brewed to perfection. Taste is first sweet then sour with a roasted malt flavour that lingers deliciously at the back of the nose. Must try more American porters.

Coffee, coffee as the description says. But nothing much more than that. Starts of bitter with a light finish. Not a full bodied beer for sure. Always leaves you wanting another swig but never gets you there. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

33cl bottle Appearance:Dark brown color (allmoste black) with a nice one finger white foamy head, leaving a nice amount of lacing. Aroma: Dark roasted malts, a hint of caramelised malts, some coffee, chocolate, and a hint of red fruits. Taste: PLums up front before the roasted malts come in adding some cofee and some chocolate in the finish. Sweet with a hint of bitterness. Slick rich mouthfeel, above average body, slightly below medium carbonation, Classic Prime example of the style, Probably the first Porter I have ever had, and still the reference to me to any other Porter. In addition this seems to be quite good available worldwide. So No excuses to not get this.

Nice taste of Caramel and chocolade. Not to much alcohol and that makes it easy drinking. One of my favorite porter

Reviewed from notes. I poured this one into a pint glass. The appearance was a dark brown color with a nice one finger white foamy head. This one had a nice coating of lacing rimming the glass after the head died after a minute. The smell was dark and roasty with a nice underlying chocolate coming in to balance the coffee that made a slight appearance. The taste was roasty and sweet and still had a decent bitterness from the coffee coming about in to it. There’s no aftertaste but did have a quick dry finish. On the palate, it sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability aspect to it. The carbonation was somewhat smooth and ends up leaving a decent coating over my mouth and tongue. Overall, I say this was a good American Porter that I would have again.
