COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

UPDATED: APR 12, 2013 Bottle at home, from BOE, 11/04/13. Pours a light black with a mahoosive frothy tan head that dissipates slowly. Nose is roast malt, big blast of brown sugars, molasses, cocoa powder, treacle toffee. Taste is rich treacle toffee, roast malt, chocolate notes in the background. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry and roasty in the finish. A solid porter and one I’d happily return to.

Two tall and very cold glasses of this Porter in ’Players’ on Pier 39 in San Fran, 5 Feb 2013. Looked like a posh Guiness: black with ruby red edges, on top a good foaming head of tight tanned bubbles. No aroma or taste at first: far too cold. As the beers warmed the dark chocolate notes began to assert themselves in the nose and mouth, the beer became richer and creamier, no need to freeze the arse off it. Took me a while to drink each glass because of the waiting around for them to warm up, worth the wait though.

Tres bonne Porter ! Noire reflet brun à la lumiere. Aromes classiques de chocolat et de cafe, cette Porter marque des points sur sa presence en bouche. Ronde et equilibrée elle marque son amertume sur la longueur. Note d’esspresso sur le final. Un régal !

Dark brown, almost black beer, with an off-white head. Faint aromas of dark coffee/chocolate. Tastes of dark chocolate, dark coffee, some toffee, mild bitter hops, and roasted malts. Bittersweet, chalky finish. A bit dry and one dimensional, but it works in favor of the brew. Solid porter, very impressed by this one.

Pours pitch black with a tanned head. Mild nose of sweet coffee/chocolate. Aroma of sweet chocolate and coffee notes. Dark roasted malts, some caramel. Sweetish for a porter, but balanced. Goes perfectly with a medium cigar.

Schwarz, wenig Schaum, röstig im Aroma. Röstmalzig und leicht weinig im Geschmack. Durchschnitts-Porter, Standard. Da fehlt es an Vollmundigkeit und auch an Hopfen.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle - jet black with thick tan head. Aroma has caramel, molasses, toasted malt. Taste follows the aroma, also picking up some dark cherries. Mouth feel is medium, good carbonation. Overall, very good beer.

Dark brown on the pour with a strong scent and aroma of espresso/coffee. Hints of chocolate and bitter sweet flavors on the palate and a delicious after taste.

GIJOE (127) - Monterey, California, USA - MAR 27, 2013
Almost black with reddish tones with light coming through it. Foamy head dissipates fairly quickly, moderate lacing. Aroma is malty with hints of chocolate, coffee, and in the taste a hint of licorice. Nicely balanced malty sweetness with a generous dose of hoppy bitterness. Nice creamy mouthfeel, mild carbonation. Pretty good brew.
