COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Pours black with a lovely off-white head and excellent lacing. Aromas of chocolate malt and a hint caramel. Rich and smooth on the palate, and tasting lightly sweet with pleasing chocolate bitter finish. This is a delightful porter. So happy to make it’s acquaintance.

Pours an opaque black color. Big tan head with good retention and lacing. The aroma is soft with roasted chocolate malts and a slight bit of coffee. The taste is dark bitter chocolate with just a hint of caramel and dried fruit sweetness. Just the right amount of hops to balance the roasted malt. Smooth, medium-full mouthfeel and lasting bittersweet chocolate and coffee finish. Perfect example of a porter.

UPDATED: MAR 30, 2010 Bomber. Pours a creamy dark brown. Aroma is roasted malt and coffee. Taste is dark and full of complex favors as a great Porter should be. There’s a strong coffee and chocolate character to it along with hints of toffee and licorice. It finishes with a slight smokiness and caramel malt bite to it. Excellent.

22oz fatboy bomber. Pours dark brown with a 1-inch fluffy tan/eventually receding/leaving good lacing head. Aromas of bittersweet chocolate, roast coffee, slight red wine sour/twang(?) and plum/raisins. Flavor of semi-sweet chocolate, espresso coffee and stone fruits. Lingering hop bitterness with fine carbonation and a very smooth, creamy mouthfeel = Great finish. Low ABV makes this easily sessionable. A classic that never dissapoints.

Great Porter. Beguiling aroma. Hints of sweet liquorice, toffee, and caramel but no coffee or chocolate. Great head of lasting beige foam and beer color of black with ruby sparkles. Tastes same as aroma. Sweet but not cloying with a soft syrupy palate and noticeable bittering and finishing hops.

UPDATED: FEB 20, 2010 Pours dark brown with a nice tan head. Very fresh aroma with lots of dark roasted coffee and some veggies with the strong malt smell. Taste is on the bitter side at first but mellows out as it warms up. Mouth feel is very smooth, lush and satisfying. Finishes unexpectedly sweet. A solid porter.

Pours black with a tan head that quickly dissipates. Aroma of coffee, licorice, caramel and chocolate. Flavor is quite light, dry, coffee, watery porter. Bitter dry finish.
