COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

I haven’t had this porter in years, but the fact that my memory of it is so fond can only speak to its drinkability, or my naivete at the time. Let’s hope for the former.

Bottle. Dessert at Blå Rock 12.oct.09. Pours a deep brown colour, with spare beige head and fair lacing. Aroma: Dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans with at touch of herbs and cookies. The chocolate and coffee is noticeable in the flavour as well, but there is also some hints of plum, hazelnuts, cherry and a touch of vanilla. The finish is slightly metallic. The aroma is a bit more appealing than the flavour. I like the texture, and that it is not as substantial as a lot of other porters, which makes it perfect with cake to.

1 pint 6 oz. Bottle. Pours black with a thick long lasting foamy light-brown head. Fruitty armoa’s control the senses. Taste packs puches of: Smoke, roasted coffee, resin and basement whiffs. Carbination is present but doesn’t control the flavor. Bitterness is minor and the finish is full. Excellant Beer.

Pours dark with a very nice and long lasting tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate with a hint of roasted coffee. Flavor of toffee, roasted barley and a hint of dark chocolate. Rich and malty but overall a very dry brew with a bitter finish but that’s not always a bad thing. A very good porter that’s worth a try.

A really nice, drinkable porter. Just the right amount of roasty notes to counter the sweetness that sits a bit back.

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2010 [9/9/09] Bottle at friends’ house in Amsterdam. Dark brown to black with a beige head. Sweet rich chocolate aroma with roasted malt, dark bread, some nutes and fruity notes. Sweet roasty flavor with chocolate, some fruit and some caramel notes. Medium to full body. A great Porter.
