COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Classique.

Last 4oz draught before keg blew. Persistent foamy head (last of keg). Very thin lacing. Body dark red passing some light. Aroma is roasted chocolate toffee that really carries in the taste which is sweet. Palate is smooth, balanced, nice. Overall great. Might still be there if it hadn’t blown.

The chocolate malts hit first followed by milder toffee aroma. Black with a tan pillow like head. Head starts off at a strong two finger then levels off to a one. Has rich coffee like taste that is only mildly bitter. Has a nice smooth feel. Has a nice sweet follow through that is quite pleasant. The rich malt in the beginning is superbly balanced with the sweet hop finish. Each mouthful is better than the one before. Haven’t had a dark beer like this taste so sweet. Pity I only bought one bottle. Nice job Anchor Brewing Company!

Aroma is malty with a little chocolate and mocha. More of the same in the flavor, bread, chocolate, coffee and nut. Carbonation gives it a nice mouthfeel and a nice finish.

Bottle @ Home. Pours black with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, raisins, plums. Taste is malts, chocolate, sweet dark dried fruits, notes of licorice in the finish. Thin to medium body, soft carbonation, very easy drinking. 261111

Very dark beer, without much additional colour in the dimple than black. Lovely fluffy mocha head that sits nicely on top of the beer. Good cocoa and chocolate aromas. Maybe a little brandied, christmas cake fruit. There’s notes of allspice as well. Lovely. The body is slightly thinner than I was expecting, but maybe then I was expecting a stout. Those Chirstmas cake flavours come through nicely along with cola and fluffy soft drink. For all that, tasty and a beer that I can’t wait to try on tap in a pint in the States. Lovely.
