COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Poured from bottle to pint glass. One of the best Porters I have had. Very very tasty!

pours very dark brown with a decent beige head, some retention and lacing. aroma is loads of caramel malts, some roasted malts. baltic sweetness, raisins, woodyness. soft carbonation, medium body, relatively short grassy finish. not my type of porter.

Pours a very dark brown with one of those creamy heads that great beers have. Smells roasty with chocolate and dark fruit. Faint alcohol smell too. Taste of raisins really comes through. More fruity than you migth expect, but very well balanced and smooth. Tastes great.

Bottle. Dark reddish brown with a thick, creamy beige head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee with a light smoky roasted malt. Flavor is very rich chocolate and roasted coffee malt with a light bitterness and faint smoke. Medium body with average carbonation and a thick, creamy mouth feel. This is an outstanding porter, it’s been a long time since I’ve had this but after revisiting this I’m going to drink this more often.

Pour from a 12oz bottle. Inky dark brew with thick and frothy head. Great head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, a little dark fruit, a little smoke, and a little ethanol. Taste is sweeter malts blending into aa roasted malt with a very well balanced finish. LIngering hops bitter in the after taste. Excellent palate. A technical masterpiece that is indeed excellent, but lacking a bit in distictiveness and character.

Anchor porter is almost black porter with big foamy head. Aroma has hints of coffee like roastiness, caramel and hints of chocolate, plums and liquorice. Anchor has light coffee/cocoa flavor, with light touch of roasted malt. It’s pretty sweet for porter, but aftertaste has balancing fairly dry bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium to medium "well", quite easy to drink. Afterall, Anchor Porter is rather good porter and classic example by the style.

Tasted from bottle into standard pint glass. Pours an opaque, very dark brown color with creamy beige head. Very aromatic: rising dough, baking bread, roasted barley, some fruity yeast esters. Flavors of toast, caramel, molasses, dark coffee and chocolate, ripe apricots, black currants, dried cranberries. Medium body and "chewy" mouthfeel. Balanced bitterness from hops and roasted barley make for a lingering aftertaste which dries out a few seconds later. Exquisite. One of my all-time favorite beers.
