COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Wonderful. Pours black, with thick, light tan, lacy head the sticks to the glass. The aroma is malty, roasted, hoppy, with hints of chocolate, that carry right over into the taste. Nothing is out of balance, so the flavors, which are complex but not over the top, blend great. Palate is full bodied, and maybe a bit creamy. I felt like I could almost sink my teeth into this. Finish remains balanced, not bitter, somewhat dry but satisfying, and lingers just the right amount of time. Great porter.

Bottle. Pours very dark brown to black with a light brown head. Aroma is of roasted malts and slightly smokey. Flavor is slightly sweet with notes of roasted malts, caramel, sweet smoke and a hint of licorice and coffee. Pretty good for a porter.

I don’t know if something was wrong with this keg, or what. This was downright awful. How is this 3.84, and a 99? Ugh. It smelled and tasted like stale pancakes and mold. This was disgusting.

Draught at Csak a jo sor, Budapest. Funny how I seem to end up trying Anchor on tap everywhere on this trip... Very dark red body, almost black. Off white head, creamy. Nice full creamy malty nose, light notes of chocolate. Creamy malty taste, light herbal bitterness, light alcohol, maybe light chocolate. Simple but cool enough.

355mL bottle poured jet black into glass with light brown head, good retention and some fine lacing. Aroma of rosted malts and chocolate and a hint of hops. Taste is roasted malts and chocolate with a bit of coffee bitterness followed up by a mild hop bitterness in the finish. A very full bodied and nicely carbonated brew that was truly enjoyed.

355 ml bottle served in snifter. 3 finger beige-mocca head that reduces to 3mm, black body. Nose: Coffee, dark and bitter chocolate, figs. Taste: Coffee, chocolate, Madeira, a hint of tar, roasty malts, caramel, raisin, dried plums, dates, dark dried fruit. Great!

In bottle. A black porter with a nice, thick tan head. Aroma of caramel, roasty malts, oatmeal and toffee. Great roasty flavour with just enough caramel sweetness. The finish is also a little sweet with coffee, caramel and bitter dark chocolate characters. Foamy mouth-feel and medium carbonation. Alcohol comes through in the finish also. Delicious!
