San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Pours a dark brown, not black, has some mocha colored edges. Huge head, huge. Fluffy and bone white. Smell is certainly not overpowering, but I can detect the roasted malts, maybe even some floral honey scents. Tastes much like the scent, doesn’t get in its own way. Hops have more of a play than I would have thought. Mouthfeel is creamy but not overly thick. Roasted malt is more noticeable in the back as this beer warms. Overall, a soild Porter.

Transfer from BA review on 10-5-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a deep-deep brown color with a nice thick cream colored head of one finger. The head has an amazing level of retention, very slowly fading over time to leave an amazing level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is sweet and roasty. The biggest smell is of a roasted malt mixed with notes of chocolate and coffee. The sweeter smells are of a molasses and caramel and a tiny bit of a wood and pine rounding it all out. Taste – The taste begins with a sweet molasses and caramel flavor with a good chocolate and roasted malt base. Some flavors of vanilla soon come to the tongue along with citrus hop as well as some other sweeter dark fruit flavors. A very light coffee and some nut come to the tongue more toward the end of the taste, combining with the rest and a newly encountered floral hop, which overall produce a nice roasty, sweet and lightly hopped flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – For a porter the body of the beer is on the average to slightly thinner side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average side. The carbonation balances the porter characteristics of the beer with the hop very well, but a thicker body may have been slightly more appropriate. Even with that said, overall the feel was pretty good. Overall – A rather tasty and slightly higher hopped porter. A nice take on a porter.

It has a dark brown/black body with deep crimson highlights and a tall three finger beige head on top. The head is slow fading and thick. It coats the glass as I tip it to my mouth and leaves thick splotchy lace patters behind. The nose is malty sweet and roasty with caramel, toffee, bready and light toasted bread notes with a hint of chocolate. It’s sweet up front with lots of deep malty texture in a full body. Roasted grain, toasted bready notes, caramel and toffee blend with mild bitterness from the mostly hidden hops and finish a little dryer but still with some residual sugary sweetness. It has a smooth full feel with light carbonation.

Oh, that’s good. The fruits sit up high in the flavour - ingredients from a great fruit crumble, with blackcurrant, cherries and a hint of plum as well. Roasted malts sit underneath, with some vanilla and subtle bitterness. Very dark, with a small white head. Body medium thick but smooth and easy to drink.

Aroma intenso de baunilha. Um pouco de mato e café no fundo. Belo creme denso e castanho. Negra e opaca como a noite. Ferrugem e defumação forte no sabor. Um pouco de caramelo, mas bastante amarga. Retrogosto forte e amargo. Bastante persistente. Boa mesmo essa cerveja!

Pours perfect. Aroma is coffee chocolate and very slight metallic. Body is fairly light and goes down very smooth. Flavor is interesting - not much chocolate or coffee. More metal than anything.

Pours dark brown, almost black color with minimal tan head. Aroma of rich quite sweet dark malts, some hops. Taste is dark fruit, followed by lots of chocolate. Didn’t quite stand up to my expectations.

Aroma is inviting chocolate roasted malt. Taste is of that, together with mild hops.

A bang on porter that tastes like it sounds in the history books. Pours black with a big tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts, hops, coffee, and plums. Tastes plumy, vinous, roasted malts and dark fruits. Has the perfect porter body that is low in carbonation, very smooth and not too heavy. Has a bitter malt aftertaste and a touch of sourness. This beer was fun.

33cl @ spina. Una scura ottima con sentori di cioccolato fondente e caffé. Da riprovare assolutamente.
