3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Ibrew2or3 (4699) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - OCT 3, 2006
Pours very dark with large bubbled light brown head. First aroma seems a bit fruity almost like a barelywine. Then some dark roasted malts, breadiness and chocolate malts intercede. The flavor starts off mild and then some malt sweetness and roasted malts build up toward midway with a hint of dark fruit. The taste ends with a nice roasty maltiness.

July, 2003: Bottle. "Wholly superior in every respect." I love the way brewers enthuse about their beers. I bet he also tells his wife he’s got the biggest cock in the world. Brewers, they’re a bit like lawyers - you can’t trust ’em.
This is a damn tasty brew - full of roasty flavours and chocolate flavours, quite smoothly done. Nice winey quality - with just a hint of soft fizz. A very pleasant and easy drinking porter - not complex or demanding, just plain old fashioned tasty. Very enjoyable.

Bottle. Pitch black pour with a medium tan head. The aroma is ashy, chocolate, roasted malt and sweet tobacco. To the sweet side. Rich tobacco flavour with notes of chocolate, roasted malt, caramel and has bitter chocolate like finish. Nice.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Rune (4667) - Tromsø, NORWAY - FEB 24, 2006
355ml bottle (BB May07). Anchor Porter was introduced to Norwegians by Vinmonopolet in early September 05 and has since then been one of my favorite porters. Dark brown on colour. Expresso head that fades away slowly. Great lacing on the glass. Full bodied with delightful malty flavours. A powerful beer with a long, dry finish.

Draft. Dark black beer with a big biege head. Roasted malt aroma. Roasty flavor with chocolate/molasses backing. Creamy mouthfeel. Nice and smooth. A very good porter.

Looks great. Is opaque dark brown and the tan head is thick and luscious. Lacing is lovely. Aroma is pure quality. Roasted malt, fun asphalt smells, chocolate, rich enticing earth. Creamy, gulpable mouthfeel. Chocolate, cream, mellow, balanced, nothing burnt, nothing bitter. Just nice quality creamy chocolate-forward porter. A really solid go-to beer!
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Glouglouburp (4558) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 30, 2007
Black body with a medium tan head with medium retention and good lacing. Strong yet mellow flavours of roasted malts, rich black chocolate and coffee beans. Nothing new in the flavour spectrum except for a perfect dosage. The light fruity notes (plums mainly) know to stay in the back. The fresh herbal green hops are well integrated. Creamy yet roasted mouthfeel. Very lively carbonation. I’m not rating it as high as some of the best Imperial Somethingblack although honestly I cannot think of a stout/porter I’d like to have more often. One of the cheapest and most easily available basic stout/porter also happens to be one of my favourite!! That’s great news. Sometimes I feel like I am blessed by life… until I walk in front of a mirror...
