COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Thanks to my dad for picking this up at International Beverage Selections in Grand Rapids. Served in a Hill Farmstead Wine Glass. Pour yields a very dark brown-colored brew with a really nice tan head and quite a bit of lacing. Solid retention as well. The nose brings forward some light chocolate and roast. There is also a bit of toffee and caramel lingering in the background. The taste is similar, leaning more toward the chocolate with a bit of malt sweetness. Body is too thin and undercarbonated. Not my favorite from Anchor. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-14-2011

Draught. Dark dark brown with khaki head that left some lace. Milk chocolatey aroma. Flavor is more complex with chololate, toffee, raisin, and sweet cream notes. Tasty.

Bottle. Thick chocolate head over a near black, opaque body. Nutty, roasty aroma. Mainly sweetish dark malts along with some refreshing fruitiness (raisins, figs). Taste is complex and exciting; espresso, both bitter and sweet chocolate, sweet black malts, and notes of dark dried fruits. Good body, oily mouthfeel. A lingering acidic bitterness in the finish. Very nice!

(355 ml bottle). Pours with a large tan head, colour is very dark, nearly black (= very, very dark ruby when held to the light). Lovely complex aroma where coffee, dark chocolate, prunes, oak and sandalwood shine through. Flavour is initially sweet and mellow, then a distinct bitterness comes through. Coffee notes are dominant. There's something undefined strange in the aftertaste that keeps me from giving it a straight "5". Still, this is a top class porter!

Bottle. Pours dark with a nice brown head. The taste is great; a nutty burnt malt with some hops. A great drink. Smooth and yet a good strong taste.

A very rich, sweet aroma with a full solid head. Pours a beautiful dark brown black color. Has a sweet flavor that is almost too much at times, and at a hefty price 9.99 a six-pack, will probably not be a repeat purchase. Nevertheless, it still an excellent beer.
