COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

A good malty porter with some what burnt aroma. This could be the smokiness coming out just not in the right way. Good head with a deep dark brown color. Has a semi hoppy flavor which is odd to style with a nice malty flavor. Has somewhat of a metallic feel to the aftertaste. I think this is light affected. Needs more coffee flavor with maybe more time with the dark malts.

22 oz bottle. Pours a dark ruby, almost black color. Finger sized light brown head with good retention, fluffy and uneven. Nice balance in the nose between roasted malt and resiny hops. Some coffee and earthy dryness as well. Great balance again in the flavor, first you taste the roasted malt, then the soft hop bitterness, then finally more roasted malt and coffee on the finish. Mouthfeel is just wonderful, very smooth and creamy with the most subtle amount of soft carbonation that makes this an incredibly smooth drinking porter.

very dark brown with a good thick and creamy head. Deep roasted aroma with notes of coffeebeans, dark chocolate and almonds. Nice flavour and palate; dark coffee and chocolate with hints of dark dried fruit. Long, deep finish of coffee beans, smoke and hops.

Bottle: Light chocolate aroma is a little weak. Pours a brownish-red with a nice tan head. Light chocolate up front with a sweet roasted coffee finish.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a slightly above average foamy head with good retention. Aroma of roasted malt is well blended with some flavourful coffee. Taste is a mix between well balance roasted malt and coffee with a medium bitter finish. Body is real creamy and quite full. Probably one of the best porter I have had so far.

First taste 6/8/07. Black as night. Has a very thin dark brown head, but it sticks around the whole time with excellent lacing. Aromas are sweet roasted malts, baker’s chocolate, and a hint of licorice. Didn’t pick up the licorice in the flavor, but the malt and chocolate are accompanied by coffee with cream and mild hops. Alcohol comes through a little on the smooth finish. Wow, this is an excellent porter. It might be my favorite to date!

Opaque ebony with a small tan head. Aroma of coffee and carmel malts. flavor shows coffee. plum, and chocolate notes with a mild bitterness in the finish.
