COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Bottle. Small tan fizzy head that mostly diminished, various sized bubbles, poor lacing, mostly opaque, carbonated, and a dark brown hue. Aroma was malty, caramel, chocolate, hint of coffee, sweet, and dark fruit. Flavor was malty, chocolate, coffee, and dark fruit. Tingly mouthfeel. Medium body.

UPDATED: AUG 21, 2011 I keep meaning to get back to this beer but something always distracts me. I really need to get around to rerating this one. +++ Served in a 12oz brown bottle. Pours thick, dark black and oily with a moderate brown head that slowly dissipates. Deep black color in the glass - no light penetrates. Strong sweet scent of roasted malts and chocolate. Sweet and malty flavor with a strong suggestion of molasses, with smooth roasty flavors that linger on the palate. This is certainly one of the sweeter porters that I have had and is probably my favorite in the style.

Dark brown colour, with creamy brown head. Aroma of sweet chocolate and sweet roasted malts. Taste is of bitter chocolate and roasted malts. Nice bitterness, and the sweetness makes it a smooth, balanced porter. Really good stuff.

12 oz. bottle at The Royale. Batch 08M. Pours a dark brown color with a huge tan head that leaves some lace in the glass. Aroma of chocolate malts, earth, leafy hops, and toast. Also a little funk in the nose. Flavor of chocolate malts, coffee, roast, earth, and sweet bread. Medium bodied, with soft carbonation and a smooth, chocolaty mouthfeel. Nice, simple porter.

Mmmmm... a nice and lovely porter with plenty of body and kick to keep you interested. Nice coffee and caramel tones make this one a good choice.

Bottle at the Bloomington Beer Festival. Poured a near black with a light brown head. Aroma was full of aggressive malts with just a touch of citrus hops. Flavor was very malty as well with a bit of a coffee flavor and again, just a bit of bitter hops. It was nice and thick on the tongue.

Chocolate, coffee, and liquorice aroma. Almost black, trace of ultra violet, large creamy cappuccinno head. Roasted coffee, bitter chocolate, and liquorice flavours. Medium bodied, finely bitter, and dry. Terrific, very satisfying!
