COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Poured a relatively thin brown with reddish hues. Nice head, thick brown and creamy. The aroma was sweet, some caramel, rich. The flavor was a little thin, definite caramel, sweetness, not too bad but definitely mass produced. As I’ve been saying, a bit thin and body and palate. Overall, enjoyable but not worth the money. Thank goodness it was on sale.

UPDATED: JUL 1, 2004 Pours a perfect very dark brown with a great light tan head. Aroma was very toasty with a great coffee smell. Taste was nice and sweet and malty, very rich with a great coffee taste. Very smooth and creamy with a only very slightly bitter end. Excellent porter

Poured a dark black; creamy beige head. Aroma of caramel malt and chocolate; would have liked it to be stronger. I found it a little thin/light on the palate. Flavor was very complex, got better with each taste. Flavors of malt and chocolate. Caramel. Coffee and licquorice also. Above average for me, but expected more.

A terrific porter, as porters go. A touch sweet. Roasted malt is present, as it should be. Hint of bitterness in the aftertaste. Cute bottle.

Not up to the very high standard of their superb Liberty Ale but nevertheless an excellent porter.Black with traces of liquorice and a few other things.Complex but simple and very easy to drink..

Rather unique shaped 12 oz bottle with a twist off cap.The shape of the bottle allows for a perfect pour into my clear mug. Very dark and stoutlike colors. Aroma is very nice, attractive to the beer drinking nose. Chocolate root beer? Dark tan head that is barely there except for a froth and ring. Good strong bitter porter stout flavor impact. Thick and almost syrupy on the tongue. Burned western pine flavors impact the uvula. Metalic aromas slowly infringe on the olfactories. Seems to have a higher alky content if you observe by flavor. Black coffee bitterness is apparent. Barely any carbonation. Finishes with the intent that you will not forget. A stronger porter. A little more ver busto than I expected from a gentleman’s porter. Plenty good for a west coast beer. If it was not for the bitter linger, I would say this is much like a sweet stout.

UPDATED: DEC 7, 2008 [12 oz. bottle] Dark brown color with a thick and creamy tan head. Light sweet, chocolate malt aroma. Smooth and sweet aroma of chocolate, some roasted malts and a nice brown sugar middle with a slightly bitter coffee finish. Very nice porter.
