COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2003 Delicious porter -- aroma is inviting chocolate roasted malt. Taste is of that, together with mild hops. For a porter, this beer is quite rich.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2008 Bottled. Dark brown beer with a brown head. Aroma has roastiness, hops and a mellow coffee/moccha note. Chocolate, roasted malt, hops and coffee in the flavor. Full, sweet body and a finish that starts sweet, but the sweetness is soon overpowered by a dry bitterness. Rating: 6-3-6-4-14-3.3 (060312)

Bottle. Pours an oily, dark brown body, low on co2, and it looks clear, with a small, tan head. Roasted malt, licorice, hops and some coffee and mocha in the aroma. Very balanced and pleasing, but maybe a bit weak. There’s even some earthy notes, almost like Brazil nut fruit. The flavor has some hoppy fruityness in the beginning, soon followed by coffee, roasted malt, a little note of sourness, some medicine touch, and a bitterness. Both hoppy and coffee-like bitterness. Full, oily, quite sticky mouthfeel. Rather dry. The finish is coffee-ish, bitter and hop-fruity. It’s a shame I haven’t had this since the first time in the beginning of -06, as it’s a beer that deserves to be drank several times. (080129)

Bottle. Pours dark mahogany red. A thin, creamy and lasting beige head. Aroma has lots of roasted malts, some berrues and a little smoke. Nice full mouthfeel - not that creamy nor oily, just full. Flavour is quite sweet with with a clear background of roasted malts. Finishes with a well-rounded bitterness.
