COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

A nice enough porter. Deep chocolate brown, creamy head. Definitely quite well hopped. Taste is dominated by piney bitterness on top of some coffee flavors. Smoth and nice to drink. Solid.

12 oz bottle. 6N1. Fig and warm brandy aroma. Bourbon cask and tangy roast malt. Restrained. Pours a dark, dark mahogany, with a big finger of fluffy cocoa-tinted soap above. Flavor is a lightly watery, yet nuanced milk chocolate, hazelnut paste, and almond butter, with a curt corner of cafe au lait, turbinado, and creamed soup. Some estery, fruity yeast character in good fashion, tinted with some buttery alcohol character. Finishes dry, clean and calmly with a sweet nip of chocolate mint. Fine beer.

Bottle. Pours black with a light tan head. Aroma of raisins. Flavor of raisins, molasses, chocolate. This is a raisiny beer. I am not getting this beer, but it might be old...but for now I am not a fan.

This porter wasn’t as good as I hoped, but it wasn’t bad by no means....Great use of roasted malts and hopes. Good head retention and nice color. Would drink again.

Big roasty malt nose and a near-black color. Tastes of chocolate and carmel mixed with espresso undertones. The flavor profile on the brew lasts forever - seemed like it stayed in my mouth for a minute!. Started with a warm and full mouth feel that rose to the roof of my mouth. Went out with a gritty, bitter finish. Great stuff. Not good for making stout or porter pancakes, though. Anchor is just a damn good brewery. I like to drink heavy beers like this with light foods, like a salad, but this doesnt need any help - its a meal of its own.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2004 World class porter all the way! I just found out that one of my local bars has this. Dark, think palate, burnt/coffee aroma, slightly burnt chocolate flavor-nice think palate, probably the thickest porter out there.-a great porter!!!

Deep dark brown with a red hue. Faint brown head. Aroma of dried fruits. Couldn’t get much chocolate or coffee of this but very good for a porter. Similar port like taste with a roasted malt character and thick mouth feel.
