COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Bottle. A solid black color with a slightly frothy head that quickly turns to lace. Almost a creamy flavor with a kind of grainy burnt coffee grind aftertaste. The bitter chocolate tart flavors rest in the back of the mouth long after the sip is complete.

Pours a very dark brown color with a light tan head. Aroma is a bit subdued but contains some chocolate, smoke, and coffee bitterness. Flavor is kind of dry and smoke but with a nice chocolate and coffee finish.

Bottle. Pours dark ruby with a foamy tan head. Aroma has notes of chocolate, coffee and licorice. Flavour is roasted malts, licorice, chocolate and some coffee. It ends in a little bitterness. A very nice porter

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2007 Bottle. Black, brownish pour with a tan head. Very nice looking. Nice roast malt flavor, fairly light body for a Porter to me. Sweet and dry finish.

(Bottle at Haket, Göteborg) Pours very dark brown with light brown head. Smells sweet soy. Dried fruits, chocolate. Vineous. Some american hop. The taste is sweet, dried fruits. Some toffee. Barley. Salt. Chocolate. Finishes with coffeebeans. A very special porter.

12 oz bottle. Dark brown with a lumpy beige head. Nose of grapes and licorice; some resin. Taste is similar. Surprised at how vinous this is, almost like a sherry. Dark chocolate emerges in the finish with mild hop bittering. Medium light with moderate carb. Nice drinker.

12 fl. oz. bottle, St. Regis Hotel, San Francisco, 21st Feb 2008. Pours pitch black with a small head. All the aromas you’d expect from a porter are present and correct - rich malt, bitter coffee and dark fruits. Likewise in the flavour. Palate is fine too, but while this is a nice porter, it’s not ’wholly superior’ as the commercial description claims. Give me Fullers first, please!

12oz bottle. Dark brown hue with a spiral off-white head. Toasty, malty chocolate nose. Little cocoa and spice. Medium to full bodied. Coffee and chocolate flavors with a sweet cola fruity malt note. Delicious and toasty. Sweet and cloying. Great flavor. Amazing!
