COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Bottle from a Food Lion in Atlantic Beach... for some reason, we can’t get this at any of the fine beer stores in Durham. Pours rich, dark brown with lovely beige head... smooth and creamy. Nose of chocolate and mild roastSimilar taste, but creamier and with malted milk ball and and hops showing. Light but smooth and lively palate. Quite good.

Dark roasted coffee flavors and aromas with hints of chicory and tar. A distinctive cocoa powder character to it too. Seems a bit thin.

deep dark brown with tan head. Roasty malty nose with a little yeasty hoppy bitterness. Medium palate with sweet and roasted malts. Slight yeasty, hoppy bitter finish. Not a bad porter.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2007 On tap at the Brewery in S.F. Lasting beige head on pour. Sweet, alcohol, and roasty malty smells with faint caramel. Nice hearty full flavored sweet roastiness up front followed by good bitterness, and medium length afteratse. Good amount of carbonation keeps it from feeling overly milky, and heavy, and it isn’t overly sweet either. A delicious porter. Would recommend.

Pours dark brown with small tan head that lasts a minute. Sweet malt chocolate aroma. Some chocolate and coffee in the flavor, but something else I can’t pinpoint. Maybe brown sugar? Very crisp dry finish.

(Bottle) Pours a dark brown color with a nice beige head. Roasted malty notes with a touch of alcohol in the aftertaste. Smooth, full mouthfeel. One of the better porters I have had in my days.

Much differant then the other Porters I have had thus far. More of a dry taste, hops are much more exentuated, and coffee notes are in the background instead of the forefront like the others I have had.
