COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Mocha bittersweet rather than chocolate and still rich, not too toasty coffee. Just easy and smooth. Roast, anise nice at end of meal, carbonation on tongue as it sooths it

Pours dark black, with tan head. Aroma is of coffee, chocolate, slightly nutty, and roast malt. Very smooth flavor and finish, with hints of chocolate, coffee, prunes, and slight almonds. A delicious, very complex porter.

Bottled. Poured a clear, garnet-tinted brown with a creamy cap of deep beige head. The aroma picked up deeply-roasted baker’s chocolate, some woodsy notes, and was incredibly sweet.. I’m talkin’ much sweeter than excpected.. toasted black malts and mild smoke emerge toward the back. Flavor was again driven by powerful sweetness.. roasted baker’s chocolate and cocoa again at the core.. tasty chocolates.. moderate herbal and woody bitter accents.. left an almost burnt cocoa impression at the finish. Medium-bodied, well-carbonated, and sweeeeet on the palate. Tasty stuff, but more roast and less sweet would have made it better.

Black with a brown head. Aroma is hoppy with a molasses and honey hint. Bittersweet like a dark chocolate or dark coffee. Easy on the palate.

Very hoppy on the nose especially for a porter, with some nice roasty malt in the aroma aswell. Slight sweet start, and then leeds in to a roasty malty middle and hoppy finish. I liked it OK, but i thought the hops didn’t quite blend with the malt and the texture didn’t quite click either (almost milky with a hoppy, malty bite) IMHO.
