COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Bottle from Real Ale Ltd, cheers Duff, consumed 03-05-09 Pours very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is roasty and fresh coffee beans Taste is slightly sweetened black coffee but quite rich and good roastiness, in fact there is a subtle undercurrent of creaminess in here as well. Loz got liquorice when she snook a sample and she was right, some dark fruits and just the most lovely balance of bitter and sweetness that you could get, marvellous stuff. A7 A4 F8 P4 Ov15 3.8

This porter is just hard to beat. Seriously a wonderful brew here. Chocolate, coffee, dark dried fruits in the aroma and on the palate. Hops are perfect. Carbonation is perfect. Head is nice and tan with some good lacing. Full body, full flavor. Winner!

Bottle. White short head. Black body. Barley liqorice aroma. Flavor of bitter English liqorice. A lot more bitterness than expected and also astonishing level of carbon dioxide.

Deep black color with ruby edges where the light passes through. Large head, good lacing. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, smoke, fruit and floral hops. Flavor is not overly complex, I look for more in a porter, almost a burnt carmel aftertaste. Palate was terrible, extremely acidic and musky. Bad finish and mouthfeel, almost stout like.

Almost black body with a good tan head that sheepishly diminishes after a big entrance. Slightly sweet chocolatey aroma. Malty with a bit of roast and rasin in the flavour profile. Very good and very flavourful for this well balanced unagressive porter.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2005 This pours dark brown, almost black, and has a foamy brown head. It smells malty sweet with an added chocolate aroma. Creamy mouthfeel. It’s very sweet to the taste, but not cloyingly so. There’s plenty of roasted malts, a hint of chocolate, and a touch of licorice. Has a mild, sweet malt finsh.

UPDATED: OCT 16, 2004 Dark amber color, almost black, with a very nice brownish head. Aroma is cocoa. Flavor is coffee and cocoa, with some chocolate and a touch of toffee. Turns into a somewhat sour and bitter finish.

Warning! Early amateur rating! Sharp start - noticeably banana! Finishes smoky, bitter and dry. Gets better with peserverence. Bitter chocolate and coffee. Still getting better...
