Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Nice and malty, but fully propped with a boatload of hops as well. Dark black in colour with a fluffy tan head. Thin mouthfeel as a porter often has. I don’t typically like porters but I find this one very drinkable. Does that mean it’s a good porter or actually one that doesn’t quite fit the style correctly? Rich and smoky aroma, smooth and bitter finish.

On Draft - Very dark with a white head. Aroma is slightly smoky, roasted malt. The taste was much the same with a bit of a bitter hop finish and a nice creamy feel. Nice beer.

the beer pours a deep black with a thin off white head that leaves a nice lacing. the nose is a nice mix of burnt malts and sweet chocolate. the body is somewhat water but the flavor is a nice mix of toasted malts and burnt sugar. the finish is slightly acidic and medium lived.

Almost black with a reddish tint when held up to the light. Head thins out soon from nearly rocky but leaves some nice lacing. Not certain on what exactly I’m smelling; a hint of caramel and perhaps sweet, dried fruit with a hint of sourness. Malty, fruity caramel on entry goes roasty with a coffee aftertaste along with a touch of hop bitterness. Quite nice.

[Bottle] Pours a clear deep brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is candi sugar, bittersweet chocolate, and roasted barley. Flavor was determined to be a little off, but I actually still liked it, and it wasn’t too far out. But regardless, it was nice and smooth and followed the aroma pretty well.

22 oz bottle from HyVee. Aroma: Difficult to tell, but a light chocolate malt. Caramel and burnt roast. Appearance: Dark brown to black. Nice dark head. Thick looking and carbonated. Flavor: Chocolate smooth malt. Slight mocha and coffee. Little bitterness from hops and a great lasting aftertaste. Palate: Light body, little carbonation. Very smooth. Overall: Very good sipping beer. Love the aftertaste. I look forward to more California beers.
