COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Not much to say that hasn't already been said well about this beer. I think it might be the best American Porter, at least the best I've tried. Pours a fantastic black cherry color and the amoma promptly wafts off the thick head. Sticky sweet and smoky, perfect balance of malt and hops. I could bathe in this stuff. Absolutely delicious. Local bar sells it for $2 bucks a pint all day every day. Hooray!

A fantastic beer! Probably, to this point in time, my most favorite Porter. Its coloring is a deep, rustic brown and it pours with a brown, firm, leathery head. A sweet aroma that reminds me of toffee coated oat bran. Upon sipping it starts out with sweet and tobacco-like and finishes off with a smooth textured coffee taste. A complex, but thoroughly satisfying example of an American microbrewed Porter!

Very fruity aroma, along with a nice yet subtle chocolate presence. The flavor is very good with a wide variety of sensations. Very complex beer, very good beer.

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2005 Pours deep brown/red. Masive head. Really nice billowing effect. Had to hold of on the pour. Amazing aroma. Just wonderfull; sweet, molases, touch of carmel. This is a remarkable porter. Great mouthfeel not to thick and stoutlike but not watery. Almost a roasted almond, nutty flavor. Complex and well blended. Slight medicinal aftertaste. Pretty bitter finish but well balenced by the syrupy nutty flavor proflile. This is outstanding.

Opaque nearly-black brown, thick, with a short-lived sudsy brown head. Aromas of coffee, molasses, coffee, peanut butter, prunes, raisins, earth and yeast. Tastes wonderfully malty, with sweet notes of dark fruit, molasses, coffee, yeast and ginger. It finishes with a good herbal hop bitternes and lingering malt and yeast. Thick and chewy. Stronly malted and.

Bottle: As soon as i poped the top of this beer i could smell nothing but bannanas, and it only gets better from there. This beer is perfect. Great bannana chocolate taste.

Really a class act here. Poured with a nice full, textured, foamy, frothy, light tan head and lace. Very dark brown, almost opaque with highlights of dark copper red. Nice rich malty roasty coffee toffee chocolate nose. More roastiness in flavor. A bit thin body, but creamy. And the flavor is really good. Definitely a session beer. NIce balanced finish. Having this at Bodega Brew Pub downtown La Crosse. Occasionaly they have it on draft too.

Wow. Everything you could want in a porter: pitch black with a dark, frothy head; aroma of roasted coffee; flavor of dark chocolate, coffee, and bread crust. Perfect ammount of carbonation that went down incredibly smooth - the single best mouthfeel I’ve experienced. I’ve had a few highly-regarded porters in my day but this is the best all-around porter I’ve ever tasted.
