COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Anchor porter is one of the definitive examples of robust porter. The head is thick and creamy, as is the texture. There is no roasted barley character, and no bite from over use of black patent. The hops are present, but not overpowering. This is exactly what I expect when I order a porter.

This is a great beer. Great strawberry aroma with a smooth head and a chocolatey/coffee aftertaste that lasts just long enough to make its point. I love this beer, and anything Anchor makes.

Color is a beautiful opaque deep brown, tan head is fine-bubbled. Aroma is decidedly porter-ish with strong coffee hint. Rich porter flavor has strong chocolate overtone and smoky and hoppy components. Finish is bitter and zingy. Delicious!

I have enjoyed this porter fresh many times at the Mariposa Street Brewery of Mr. Maytag. It loses little in the bottle if it travels well. A very creamy, sweet toasted mocha mouth filling treat. This is a substantial food! Sip it cool, not cold, enjoy its lacing as the glass is drained. It goes so well with roast beef and Yorkshire pudding! It is good as well with chocolate cake!

Satisfyingly rich, complex porter. Firm, creamy body with chocolate and fruit (subtle banana character) in the aroma and flavor; nice bitter hop/sweet malt balance mid-palate; mild alcohol warmth in the finish followed by a host of flavors in the aftertaste: coffee, molasses, yeasty dark bread, and a pleasant hop bitterness.

This is probably my favorite beer. The nose is sweet. Pours a deeeeep amber with nice smokey head which unfortunatly disappears too fast. Ahhh the flavor is exquisit. Nothing really stands out as being the main flavor of this brew. No flavor really dominates, all the flavors really blend together very well, think of it as a good jambalaya or other food that is cooked together for a very long time. No single flavor is standing out its’ all so very well blended. Flavor is plenty malty but quite highly hopped for balance. Sometimes the yeast flavor comes through as well. Profile is really one of malty sweetness, coffee/toffee flavors, and a well balanced bitterness. The finish lingers but in a very good way.

The pure aroma of roasted malts and dark rich complexion charactrerize this traditional porter. The huge cappucino-colored head settles like a waterfall in the glass in the tradition of a Guinness. The flavor is a pure, rich roasted malty porter as in the aroma.
