Nice bottle! Pours almost black. Thick lasting head, nice lacing. Nose is malt/sweet, hinting chocolate and licorice. Thick mouthfeel, smooth and creamy. Roasty malt and bittersweet chocolate with a good dose of licorice. Finishes slightly bitter. VERY nice porter. Good job guys!

After viewing the rest of labattboys ratings, I realized why he rated this so low - he doesn’t know good beer. This beer is delicious, robust, and malty....pure goodness.

Anchor Porter has a thick, creamy, beige head and a dark, black (ruby, under light) appearance, with lots of lacing. The aroma is initially neutral, but as the beer warms, one detects prunes, other dark fruits, and hops. Taste is very bold, with licorice, prunes, dark cherries, fruit, hop bitterness, chocolate, dark coffee, and malt across the taste. Mouthfeel is heavy, and Anchor Porter finishes mostly dry and bitter. This is a wonderful beer. RJT
4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Shrews629 (193) - Kentucky, USA - OCT 30, 2010
Full, lush, creamy, cream colored head. Color is almost pitch black. Just the faintest dark red, ruby highlights around the edges. This brew looks outstanding. The head is really sticking around and it leaves a copious amount of lacing. A rich chocolate and coffee malt come to the forefront of the nose. The smell is also evoking a roasted and smokey flavor that is very delightful. The taste is very similar to the smell by recalling the chocolate and coffee. Not overly sweet, but just enough sweetness for a teasing. The smokey flavor adds appeal by appearing in a delicate way in the end. Medium to full mouthfeel. Chewy and very smooth. Creamy. The coating of the tongue and throat are very satisfying as they linger for a long while. I really, really, really like this brew. I haven’t had a tremendous amount of Porters in my life, but this one has to be at the top of my list of ones I have had thus far. Perfect for those late Autumn/Winter days and evenings. Easily drinkable. This is a beer that I will have to visit every year at some point or another. Thanks Anchor...... for brewing it.

Tasted from bottle into standard pint glass. Pours an opaque, very dark brown color with creamy beige head. Very aromatic: rising dough, baking bread, roasted barley, some fruity yeast esters. Flavors of toast, caramel, molasses, dark coffee and chocolate, ripe apricots, black currants, dried cranberries. Medium body and "chewy" mouthfeel. Balanced bitterness from hops and roasted barley make for a lingering aftertaste which dries out a few seconds later. Exquisite. One of my all-time favorite beers.

Wonderful. Pours black, with thick, light tan, lacy head the sticks to the glass. The aroma is malty, roasted, hoppy, with hints of chocolate, that carry right over into the taste. Nothing is out of balance, so the flavors, which are complex but not over the top, blend great. Palate is full bodied, and maybe a bit creamy. I felt like I could almost sink my teeth into this. Finish remains balanced, not bitter, somewhat dry but satisfying, and lingers just the right amount of time. Great porter.

Pours dark brown/black with thick, brown-stained head. Strong roasted barley aroma: I smelled it before I even poured the beer! Notes of coffee and mild chocolate on the nose. Complex flavor with mild chocolate, coffee, roasted grains and caramel blending to form a smooth, creamy texture. Slightly bitter finish with mild earth. Make no mistake: this is a fantastic beer.
