COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Wow! What a great porter. I’m not a porter man, myself, but this one is a great one. Smells and tastes of chocolate, with an extremely filling sensation in your mouth. Dark as oil and slick as night. Go for it, porter man.

UPDATED: DEC 6, 2004 This has to be my favorite porter. Everything about this beer screams great, from the conderful chocolatey aroma to the finish which leaves you wanting more and more. Fantastic!

UPDATED: MAR 12, 2008 Wonderful color and head. Rich, but still smooth enough to be a session beer. Has that certain maltiness that makes you pucker a bit. Good value. Wonderful brew.

Dark roasted taste. Thick coffee aroma and taste. Fairly bitter up front with malt backing it up. Excellent taste, still one of the best porters I’ve had.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2004 Draft at Enken, Copenhagen. Rich chocolate/coffee porter. Intense, long-lasting flavor that just refuses to let go. Had two pints, the first of which somehow reminded me of a divine frappucino. An outstanding porter and a personal favorite.

What a pleasant surprise this porter was. Excellent flavor, hops are present but not overbearing. Very good and highly recommended.

Pours brown, but slightly lighter than I’m used to seeing in a porter with a tan head. Smells of roasted malt (coffee, chocolate, peppery) with some sweet caramel qualities. Taste is of chocolate, coffee and raisins. The roasted elements are not exaggerated as they can be on some porters which is a good thing. Mouthfeel is oily and thick. Finish is chocolatey with mellow bitterness. This is an excellent beer for its style.

Anchor Porter pours to an ink black color with a dense and creamy tan head, and a soft carbonation. The nose on this beer is a joy, just bursting with robust dark malty and chocolate aromas. Dark chocolate, coffee, roast, some piney hop aromatics, and touches of smoke flood the nose. The palate is soft and fat with lots of big dark chocolate, coffee, sweet malt, and tones of estery black currant flavors. Anchor Porter finishes with more of those big chocolate and coffee flavors up front, then ends with a dry, roasty, slightly smoky bitter finishs that lingers.
