COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

After viewing the rest of labattboys ratings, I realized why he rated this so low - he doesn’t know good beer. This beer is delicious, robust, and malty....pure goodness.

Chestnut to near black in appearance. Earth toned color head with a steady stream of bubbles marching to the surface single file. Aromas of liquorice, bread, chocolate and toffee. Roasted flavors of espresso without the cloying bitterness. Hops are quite restrained but with you every step of the way. Body could be beefed up a bit but all in all a deliciously complex porter.

Nice roasty malt taste, slightly nutty with lingering pleasant palate. The alcohol tint offsets nicely the slight sweetness in the body, creating in the whole a well-crafted porter that is good enough to be enjoyed on its own.

Dark (almost black) ruby color. Tan, fluffy head. Nice aroma of marshmallow and liquorice. Roasty, sweet malt-flavour. Big bitterness with an espresso-dry finish but still very smooth and drinkable.

One of the world’s great beers. Looks and smells so nice, and the taste follows up to it. One of the top three porters on the planet, along with Fuller’s and Sam Smith’s.

(355 ml bottle). Pours with a large tan head, colour is very dark, nearly black (= very, very dark ruby when held to the light). Lovely complex aroma where coffee, dark chocolate, prunes, oak and sandalwood shine through. Flavour is initially sweet and mellow, then a distinct bitterness comes through. Coffee notes are dominant. There's something undefined strange in the aftertaste that keeps me from giving it a straight "5". Still, this is a top class porter!

Jet-black color, with a tight cocoa/creamy tan head. Aroma is a roasty delight: coffee, chocolate, nuts. Deep, rich, satisfying. Terrific initial grit on the palate, a torrent of beautiful bitterness braces the tongue, but it's smooth sailing all the way down. Full body, rewarding flavor, fat malt, and just sweet enough. Texture smooths out and the large portion of this drink is an easy-going, fully flavored ride. While I love bolder and brasher stuff, Anchor Porter just about acheives perfection, and the happiness that ensues when it's flavors flood my mouth and spread my smile out wide confirm that thought.
