COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Quite a wonderful beer. For those of us not entranced with sweet porters, this brew is perfect, as the coffee flavors tend to prevail. This is one of the few beers that actually improves in taste thoughout the second glass. The bottled version is excellent, but the tap is sublime.

UPDATED: JAN 20, 2011 This is my favorite porter, no, this is my favorite beer. I am a big fan of the porters but this is one of the first ones I ever tried and, I guess I just got lucky. No other porter can match what Anchor brings to the table. Thick, creamy caramel head, dark black, just a wonderful appearance. Smells of chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and a slight sweetness that I cant quite place. The taste is just wonderful. Everything mentioned in the aroma comes through in the taste. It’s not too thick of a beer, but definitely not too thin either. The aftertaste is wonderful. Can’t say enough about Anchor Porter.

Wow! Black color with ruby highlights, thicky moka head. Aroma of porcini mushrooms (Boletus aereus), roasted malt. Taste is rich, from coffee to mushrooms again (unbelievable!). Leaves a pleasant aftertaste. Body is a bit oily, soft carbonation.

UPDATED: DEC 9, 2008 This beer was the shit. I would buy this again anyday of the week if I could find it in South Dakota. It is very dark with a creamy head and a smooth ass taste.

A great porter - rich and creamy, even though it has a slightly oily mouthfeel. You want coffee? You got it - tons of it. Lots of depth of flavor. Did I mention I really like this porter?

A satisfyingly rich, complex porter. Firm, creamy body with chocolate and fruit (subtle banana character) in the aroma and flavor; nice bitter hop/sweet malt balance mid-palate; mild alcohol warmth in the finish followed by a host of flavors in the aftertaste: coffee, molasses, yeasty dark bread, and a pleasant hop bitterness. Best to let this linger and let the aftertastes develop before taking another swig.
