COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2007 Yes, it’s THAT good. Textbook porter appearance, very dark brown with a dense and longlasting tan head & good lacing. Aroma of vanilla, hazelnut, dark chocolate, espresso, dark sugar and myriad of other things. The taste is very rounded and full-bodied, roasty malty dry with lush vanilla hazelnut sweetness. Very long finish like an espresso. Mouthfeel is thick and pretty heavy on the carbonation.

Bottle, pours dark brown with a huge light brown creamy head. The head shrinks down a little but sticks around for the whole beer, and the lacing is pretty good. The aroma is heavy on the malt side. The aroma is of chocolate and coffee. There is not much hop aroma. There is also a hint of sourness to the aroma. Takeing the first sip you are hit with a pretty good size malt bill, with quite a bit of coffee and chocolate. There is also a distinct sourness to it. There is a slight bitterness, but not much for hop flavor. With the initial flavor it is very sweet with light bitterness. Then the finishing flavors the sweetness falls back to the moderate level with a little bit of bitterness and that sourness. The duration of the finish is somewhere inbetween short and average length. The body is medium with a creamy texture and soft carbonation.

Bottle. Black as night with a creamy off-white head. Wonderful roasted malt, slightly sweet flavor with just a hint of hops. Smooth as cream. This is one fine beer.

Deep midnight black, full and creamy off white head. All kinds of aroma in the nose. Roasted malt, licorice, raisins, hazlenut, chocolate, and a hint of coffee. Medium bodied and creamy on the tongue. Finishes mostly clean with a touch of bitterness from the hops. A very good porter, probably my best to date.

12 ounce bottle in pint glass. Pours black with lasting flat light brown head and lotsa lace. Aroma of roasted and chocolate and port wine. Flavors of roasted chocolate, ripe fruit with a mildly bitter finish. Medium body and carbonation. A great sessionable porter.

Bottle 22oz. My favorite beer I’ve tried so far. Nice dark color, tan head. Pretty easy to drink, a little bit of bitterness, nice finish. Just what I was looking for.
