COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

This is by far my favorite "food" beer. Pours a dark black with a very thick head. Perfect balance of flavoring and doesnt leave a nasty taste in your mouth if you drink it while eating(like many beers do).

12oz bottle, pours dark brown with a medium creamy looking head. Aroma is all malt. very smooth to drink, I get a nice coffee like taste, little hops at the end. I had a friend try it, who dosen’t normally go dark and he loved it. I only wish I discovered this earlier.

UPDATED: APR 17, 2007 Had it in a pint glass. I really loved this beer. This is the type of beer I could have a few of and still enjoy everyone just as much. The flavors are not over bearing but they are there and delicious. Also it shouldn’t feel you up if you decide to have a few of them at dinner. Or breakfast... Again great beer I loved it, also smooth and it fills your palate and slams your taste buds with a delicious flavor

Poured into a pint glass very dark with a nice tan head. Aroma is amazing with roasted malts. Taste is chocolate-coffee, dark fruits, caramel, and slight bitterness but does not effect the body.

Very drinkable. Wonderful, yeasty bubblegum aroma. Very lacy head. Less roasty or hoppy than I had expected. Well balanced between sugars and roasted malts. A classic.

Bottle, Ale Cellar, Darlington. This is a little cracker. Poured a rich, very dark brown with a nice lingering creamy tan head. Aroma was knoclout, and had malt, chocolate and burnt orange. Flavour was just as good and was wonderfully balanced and intricate. Loads happening with the malt, hops, chocolate and coffee all superbly poised. Hop bitterness spot on. Absolutely tasty.

Very good porter with an absolutely beatufil black color topped off with a strong beige head. Great malty flavor with a nice hops finish. Big body to go with the big taste. Much better than its more well known brother Steam.
