COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

This is a good porter! Dark brown/ruby. No carbonation. Sweet malt aroma. Flavor is roasted and sweet with hints of coffee. It's very creamy and smooth. Really good stuff!

Really good. Reminds me of Aventinus quite a bit. After the first couple sips, I put it in the fridge to get it colder, and it just doesn't taste as good.

Very dark body, perfect tan head, a pleasure to look at. Enticing aroma and rich taste. Coffee, roasted malt and toffee flavours balanced by outsanding hops. Finish is almost dry. Delicious, and very drinkable at just 5,6% ABV.

This is a well-rounded porter...fruity, malty, roasted, slightly chocolate flavored. I highly recommend it.

At first, a sweet sting, giving way to a understated bitterness that continues. Very nice indeed.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2004 (draught) Rich black color with tan head. Roast aroma. Full bodied beer with hints of coffee and dark fruits. Nicely balanced between the hops and malt. Not as "smokey" as a lot of porters--I'd call this a stout.

Ron once played a trick on Bob by mixing Falstaff light with molasses and putting it in an Anchor Porter bottle and recapping. On opening it at the tasting, Bob simply noted it was sweeter than the Sierra Nevada porter we had just tasted. Well, the real thing tastes a heck of a lot better than Falstaff light and molasses I can tell you. Nice dark roast malt flavors and hop bitterness. A lot more enjoyable than I would have expected given that I seldom drink dark beers. This one I drained dry and licked the last drop from the upturned bottle.
