COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

This is a wonderful porter. I even enjoy it more than Fuller’s London Porter. The experience on the palate is unforgettable. The initial taste is hoppy but it is quickly displaced by sweet malts.

Another good selection from the second oldest brewery. All of Anchors products have been very good selections

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2007 This is seriously just about the best beer I’ve had. It is certainly the best porter I’ve had. You will definitely not regret gettting some of this. (Couple weeks later) I’ve come to the conclusion that this is currently my favorite beer. The balance of flavor is just awesome. There isn’t really any one aspect of the beer that overpowers, it’s just wonderfully smooth and even. Definitely worth the premium price. Delicious roasted malt aroma, with some chocolate and coffee notes. The flavor follows the nose, with chocolate being the strongest flavor, along with coffee, malt and a nice, restrained hoppiness.

UPDATED: MAR 13, 2003 2J1 bottle code (October 2002 tasting). Withstood one of the hottest summers on record in non-climate controlled warehouse. Enormous rocky oily head. Huge flavor profile; alternating hops, chocolate and traces of coffee. Long, dry finish. 2G? bottle code (December 2002 tasting). Huge rocky head; intense, molasses-like, then choclate, then subtle coffee, wow, when fresh, the definative example of the style!

This is one to keep in the fridge. Perfect blend off coffee and chocolate. This is one of my favorite porters.

How much do I love this Beer ?? Example: Head to head I picked Fuller’s London SLIGHTLY. However, vs. great Stout (Victory Storm King), Anchor shows MUCH BETTER than Fullers. Maybe just the bottle sample. Anyway, Anchor Porter is just one of my VERY favorite beers... in Top 10 easily. Main reason: great nose, complex, fruity... not the heavy tar of many Porters ( i like that too).

Smell and taste are sweet but not too sweet. Rich, creamy, and delicious beer.
