COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Ebony color with a foamy egg shell, almost tan, head. The head thins down after a few minutes but leaves a film on the top of the beer and laces well on the glass. Nose is sweet caramel, burnt sugar, and charcoal. Full bodied taste, very roasty with a subtle bitterness. Slightly boozy. Great palate -- very full for a porter and the roast flavor lingers long. Really a great beer and an excellent representative for the style.

Bottle. Nice lacy tan head. Hold it to the light and it blocks the sun. Toasty malt and a hint of red wine in the aroma. Luxurious creamy mouthfeel. Taste of coffee and chocolate. I really like this beer.

UPDATED: AUG 2, 2011 Looks are spot on for a porter; great dark looks. Aroma similarily typical for the style, with bread, chocolate, roasty, caramel... just very generiusly hopped and malted. No surpise the taste is very rich yet balanced, only slightly sweet, and just very nice. One of the best porters I’ve head. (33cl bottle at Cafe Belgie)
