COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Poured a great dark ruby tone with a small tan head. The aroma was of roasted malts, very very smokey. It is one of the most appealing aromas I have yet encountered. The flavor was slightly sweet and very dry. I love this beer.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2004 Excellent but unusual porter that features a fairly sweet fruitiness up front with a mildly bitter, dark roasted maltiness and a yeasty flavor taking over in the finish; The fruity sweetness also dominates the nose and is reminiscent of English style porters; Black in color and opaque; Large, frothy head is dark tan in color and has excellent retention; Lacing is stubborn at first, sliding down the glass rather than sticking, but eventually grabs hold in small amounts

Dark dark brown in color, almost black (when held in direct light, there is a hint of a ruby color), with a medium dark tan head. Nice coffee-like aroma. Thick, satisfying taste, crisp and malty with a mildly hoppy finish. Good aftertaste. My only complaint is that the head wasn't thick enough. Besides that, wonderful porter.

UPDATED: OCT 10, 2004 Bottle. Almost black, small thin off white head that went away quick. Nose is exactly what you want out of a beer: crisp, clean, thick. Tastes is very sharp and crisp. Notes of licorice, roasted hops, bitter chocolate and coffee. All the fore mentioned tastes are very low key and not at all overpowering. The beauty is that these flavors are all there but they blend together perfect. This is a very compplex well crafted beer. This is almost the most perfectly crafted beer I have ever had. It is commplex in its subtlety. I could write poetry and prose about this beer for days. If I was forced to write one negative thing about this beer it would be the slightly thick mouthfeel, but that is very, very minor.

Love this one. Carmel, malt, and smoth creamy goodness dominate. Lots of other flavors going on though. Every bottle has revealed something new to me. I will buy this beer many many more time in the future...GUARANTEED.

A beautiful beer, thick tan colored head that lasts and lasts, rich mouthfeel with a taste of roast barley and black malt, generous hopping balances out this beer which finishes a bit hoppy.

Really like this beer. Poured dark brown with just a hint of red. Head was near perfect dark tan. Couldn’t identify the aroma, but red licorice came to mind. Flavor is smooth with a strong smoke finish. Only slightly acetic (which I like).Very nice.

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2007 Surprisingly aromatic. Most beer seems to be light in the aroma category - not this one. Typical porter appearance. Nice balance of bitter and toasty, malt sweetness. Good mouth feel. I’ll do it again - I was surprised
