San Francisco’s famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Slight decent chocolate aroma, pours an almost black dark red with a thin tan head. Taste has a slight bit of chocolate, but the predominant flavor is of roastiness. Slightly bitter finish that fades to a touch of tartness. Drinkable, but not the first thing I’d reach for.

Dark brown with fizzy brown foam. Light sweet aroma of malts. Sweet taste with malts, chocolate and raisin notes. Sharp on the tongue.

Bottle. Aroma of licorice, figs, prune, coffee, mild roast. Pours out pretty black with a beige creamy head. Taste is better than the nose with more sweetness and intensity from the licorice, figs and coffee. Very balanced between bitterness and sweetness. Medium body, oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation, toasty finish. Super easy drinking and nice flavours.

My first 5. Cannot mark it down in any area ergo it’s a home run. Pours red hued black with large creamy head. Head smells of vanilla with smokey. Very sweet and rich tasting. Full-bodied. Dark notes of toffee, fudge, parkin, treacle and coffee balanced by lighter /sweeter nuances of vanilla and lactose. Intense finish with cocoa toffee and smoke. I could talk about it all day but quite frankly you should just go out and try it. Top quality porter from a great brewery.

Dark brown pour with beige head. Toasted grain and dark fruit, coffee/cocoa aromas. Watery mouthfeel with a mild carbonation. Taste is more dark roast with lasting bitterness. Finishes slightly chalky, with a building bitterness. Decent porter-easy drinking dark beer as expected it should be, but a bit pricey. Not the first overrated offering from Anchor!

Musta olut, suklaisella tuoksulla. Maussa suklaata, pehmeyttä, loistava porter, ei liian vahva.

Pours dark brown with a big light brown head. Rich aroma of prunes, raisins, bread, toffee, dark bread crust, smoke, hints of chocolate and coffee. Perfectly balanced taste. Creamy texture, medium carbonation and body. Amazing, one of the best porters I’ve tried.

Bottle. Great looking pour, deep dark brown with a foamy light tan head that stays, nice lacing. Rich roasted malt and chocolate aroma, faint nut and citrus. Lovely strong roasted flavour, savoury, chocolate biscuits. Medium feel, very bitter, lingering roast. You think you may have overrated a beer from your formative years, then you find out it’s just as delicious as ever. Must drink more often.

Dark brown with a small creamy beige head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate with notes of liquorice and nuts. Flavour of coffee and chocolate, with notes of liquorice, that ends up with a nice bitterness. One of the best porters I’ve had.

Dark brown/red pour, almost black with tan head. Aroma of medium roast malt and toast. Taste is sweet roast malt with very mild bitter finish. Light for a porter, but enjoyable.
